Tylers Mummy - most of the fam know about little RB. I am not good at waiting or keeping secrets, or big announcements, so I have told them already. Uhm, don't worry too much about whether you have stuff for Rylee or not. Wee little babies don't need much to start. Somewhere safe to sleep - a deep drawer will do to start until you can get sorted. I know it doesn't sound glam but there is a LOT of hype surrounding babies and about what you need, when in fact half of it you don't actually need. Sometimes though it's only be trial and error that you find out what works for you and what doesn't. They don't really need a pram, but it's handy for you to get out of the house, as long as it lays flat for a new born you'll be fine. The things that you really need are nappies, clothes, blankets, sheets, something to swaddle her in and some sort of burp cloth - I used heaps of cheap washers ( good for breast pads too). I was a bit shocked when I started putting washers down my shirt instead of breast pads, but it's because they were convenient. If you are going to bottle feed, obviously you'll need some bottles and formula and a bottle brush. I used to just boil the bottles old school style, I mostly breast fed, but my supply wasn't enough so I compliment fed with 90mls of formula each feed. I suppose you might want a pacifier. Some babies love them, some like HB not so much. The other thing to remember, you can always go out and get stuff once you're settled in your new place. Something that you may not know though, if you want a new cot, sometimes there is a 12 week wait on delivery. So if you buy new, ask the store if they have any in stock for immediate delivery or collection. Oh, you need a car seat or capsule, but you can hire a capsule for up to 6 months, so you don't have to worry about that for a while. Capsules are kinda handy. I didn't have one for HB but am getting one this time.

Maybe others will have some ideas for you about what you need and don't need. Mostly though what I needed was reassurance and advice. Oh about advice? You don't have to take it. People ( including me) will give you advice. Some you'll agree with, some you won't. You are Rylee's Mum and you will know what works for you and what feels right and wrong. It doesn't feel like it at first, but you do know your baby best, and you do have instincts.

AFM - scan tomorrow (Tues 20 Dec) at 8.30am. Bring it on. Nervous, scared and excited all at once. Have tentatively decided that if the downs risk comes back high that we'll keep going with the pregnancy. Not sure whether I would consider an amnio or cvs. An old chook like me has to think about things like that.

Take care.
