    I think I must be.

We have only been ttc for one month so Im feeling like it's really quick. So I had a faint positive yesterday morning and one the night before that. From all I have read here I should take that as a positive. So my question is what next? Presumably I need to go to the doctors to get a blood test. So how soon is to soon to do this? Do they need any sort of internal exam? As I have moved my childhood doctor who has all my history, etc. is an hour away do I need to see him or can I find a brand new one local too me now? As you can tell I'm a bit confused. I don't think I will quite believe until I get a blood test. And big congratulations to everyone else!!
    Thanks
    Natalie

    Congratulations

Yes, go and see your dr, who will either do another urine test or he will order a BT. When the pregnancy is confirmed you then get a referral to an obs if you are going private (I am not sure what they do if you go public).

    All the best

    Congratulations Natalie

Definitely go see a doctor - it doesn't have to be your childhood one with all your history. If you want a blood test to confirm this will usually cost you a bit more than a standard consult (I was told $50 extra) but the technology in the POAS tests you already have is pretty good so if you're coming up positive, you'd be pregnant. The GP will refer you to an ob whether you are public or private but if you want a choice in who you see, you might have to go private. Your old trusted childhood doctor might be able to recommend someone in your area if you are only an hour away perhaps and they might be prepared to do this over the phone for you even to save you the drive??

Good luck and all the best for a H&H 9 months!

    Congrats.

You wont have an internal exam, in fact you might never have one throughout the entire pregnancy until you go into labour (that was my experience).

Go to a doctor after you have passed the date your period would have been due. You can go to any doctor. I went to a bulk billing clinic so it cost nothing to see the doc and nothing for the blood test. Not all doctors will do a blood test, they will just do another stick type test. The bulk billing place I go to charges $10 for the stick type test but not for the BT, go figure.

Before you go you need to think about what hospital you want to go to. If you are going public your decision should be pretty easy as it will be your local one. The OB that you will get referred on to has to work from the hospital of your choice so you will need to tell the GP which hospital you want to go to then they can check their list to refer you to the correct doctor. I didn't know this when I went for my appointment and got referred to a doctor who delivered at a different hospital so I had to go back and get a second referral and therefore wasted a visit to an OB. The OB you see will book you into hospital, but as I was going public I booked in myself by just making a phone call to the hospital.

The GP probably wont give you a referral until your BT results come back positive but will refer you on straight away if they do the stick test.

It's all very confusing in the early part of the pregnancy. Just remember that there's lots of ladies here who've already been through it and we are more than happy to share our knowledge with you.
