Is anyone playing a team sport in their 1st trimester?

    Hi all

I'm around 7 weeks pg and play softball. On the weekend I had to slide 3 times and dive back to a base on my stomach once. My coach was freaking out, but DH wasn't and it looks like the cotton wool has come out from my coach's perspective.

I guess my question is, if you play a sport in which you can possibly have some form of a collision with another player, are you worried about miscarrying? My first pregnancy went without a hitch (hopefully as this one will) and I played up until I was about 12 weeks.

I feel fine but I guess I need to think about the potential effects that playing this sort of sport can have. Looks like I may have to resort to playing tennis with DH - boring!!

I played basketball with DS1 until 14 weeks, A grade level, with no problems at all.

With DS2 I wasn't playing sport at all, as I was quite unwell.

I think it depends on your own intuition, if you don't think it's a good idea, don't do it. I had a doctor's clearance to play until 14 weeks, without that I don't think I would have played past about 10 weeks.

    Best wishes.

Hi, I played basketball untill 7 weeks. It is a pretty rough competition and we decided it would be best not to risk it as there are a few falls and knocks.
    Good luck!

    Thanks for the feedback girls.

*Nessa* - no, far from professional, but I play hard, am an all or nothing sort of player. I guess I also have to consider the risk of even possibly getting tagged hard in the abdomen by another player. Some of those girls aren't clear on the rules and get unreasonably physical. That's probably an issue too....hmmm...it's making me think further!!

I was going to ask something similar. I do step aeorbics once a week (a lot of jumping around etc) and I wasnt sure if that was ok to carry on until 12 weeks. I am only 5 weeks now. I feel ok to carry on, but I have taken my step down a level & I have a little trouble making it to the end because I get tired easily.
    Has anyone else done this?

I am only in early stages, but will continue to play touch footy, netball and volleyball. I asked the doc about it, and she said to do it as long as I feel comfortable, and to stop if there is any spotting. A friend of mine did step aerobics until almost her delivery date - she just modified the abdominal exercises. My aunty also continued to run marathons, and was out jogging when she went into labour. I keep reminding myself that in the olden days (!) people used to be out farming and working with animals - sports ought to be fine as long as you listen to your body.

I just had a BFP this morning, 4 weeks and have 2 horses in full work. They are showjumpers so I will not be doing any jumping due to the extra level of risk, but I think I will keep riding flatwork at the moment with a body protector on and just see how I go. I've been riding 22 years and I am a personal trainer, so pretty fit and want to stay that way as long as possible.

    Hello

I just got a BFP yesterday as a result of our IVF treatment, I continued to exercise as usual during the 2WW and will do so throughout my pregnancy. I was told to just lower my weights as ligaments and joints get weaker during pregnancy. I too am a personal trainer, and believe that we should maintain the same level of activity throughout the pregnancy, but lower the intensity. I no longer run but I do speed walk, and lighter weights.

    keep up the fitness girls.

ooh Panda, congrats! what is your estimated due date? 18 feb here! I forgot to mention, I lift weights and run lightly etc as part of my job/training, and don't intend to stop.

We should have a BellyBelly fitness club :-)
