Nikki - I came down with the WORST cold in the last week or two. I lost my voice for 6 days! Coughing, running nose, sinuses....
Cough lollies are fine - so are strepsils.
Highly recommend Lemsip satchels. Their main ingredient is paracetamol - with lemon flavour. you drink it with warm water and it helps soothe the throat.
I also got a nasal spray from the chemist because my head felt like it would explode from the sinuses.
It's quite safe to take paracetamol whilst pregnant - and I read somewhere that if you have a cold take it every 2-3 hours.
You CAN'T take psuedoeffidren (sp) - which is in Sinus tablets - as that is a form of 'speed'.
And you might have to be careful with some cough mixtures. Can't take nurofen or tablets with ibofuren in it.
You can ask your chemist - as I did - and they can help you choose what's best.
He said I should not take much panadeine - although in small amounts it would be okay.
And it was also okay to put some of the vicks vapour stuff on your chest (or under the nose) - particularly if it's the baby one.
Butter menthols are like lollies - that's why they are sold in the lolly section at the supermarket. They probably wouldn't help if you had a cold.
Hope it clears up quickly for you. It really knocked me about.
