    Freaking out!

    Hi everyone,

Yesterday I had my first OB visit and had an ultrasound - saw the fetal pole and egg sac but couldn't detect a heartbeat. The doctor is concerned that his machine has been dropped one too many times and it wasn't focusing properly, so I have to have another scan at 12.30 today. I've been bleeding on and off for the entire pregnancy (I'm nine weeks), but previous test showed increasing hormone levels and an ultrasound at 6 weeks showed the heartbeat. Has anyone else been faced with dodgy equipment, or is this sounding really bad for me?

Ultrasound equipment in Dr's offices aren't the best and Obs aren't usually well trained in the use of ultrasound. If it is one at an imaging clinic today then you should get much better results. To use an analogy the one that he was using yesterday was probably a bit like a point and click $50 camera whereas the ones at the imaging clinics are more like a $2000 SLR with fancy lenses and a professional photographer behind the lense.

I know that telling you not to worry won't help but if he wasn't too worried then I would put it down to dodgy equipment for now.

Good luck at 12:30. I hope that it is good news for you.
