It is advised that you don't eat ham in pregnancy due to the slight risk of listeria.
You can however safely eat it if it is hot.
So I think a ham toastie would be fine!!!

yep go for it! make sure its hot![]()
YEAH !!!!!!
Sounds good...![]()
i want one too now!!
I'd steer clear of it...
You can have it hot but it has to be cooked to a certain temperature so it kills off all the bacteria.
I'm not sure it would get hot enough inside a toasted sandwitch?? Maybe fry it a bit first??
I was going to suggest that Deb!! Cook it first & put it in the sandwhich hot before you toast it. That way you're guaranteed it's hot.
I have posted in here a brochure from the ANZFA on listeria.
Have a read - it is in a post by Kellym FOOD CONCERNS in Pregnancy General Discussion...
Great minds think alike, hey Sarah??I was going to suggest that Deb!!![]()
Either that or we've known each other for too long & we're thinking the same LOL!
Hehehe... yeah... probably that!
Going through TTC, pregnancy and baby buddies at the same time has probably contributed to all of that!
Why do I feel like ham now?? hehehe
well i have already had one - I RAN STRAIGHT OUT - But i bought it back here and re-toasted it (only couple minutes from the shop) and made sure it was steaming... but Woooops now i think i will steer clear from now on.. I also found myself pulling half the ham out of it and munging on cheese and tomatoe.....
Sorry girls for all those of you that are Hungry for it too now....
Hi,
Yes, like has been said you can eat it hot.
Dont eat it cold at all but hot is fine, like in a toastie or on a pizza.
Hi chicks!![]()
When I was pregnant with Patrick I asked my Obs, Mark Lawrence, if I could eat ham. He said not from the deli but you can eat the ham from safeway that's packaged with a use by date. E.g K&R.
So what I did was I only had some when it was first opened and then left it for my hubby after that.
Just ask your Dr or Obs to confirm what you can and can't eat.
I confirmed about tuna last week because of the magnesium (I think) is very bad for the placenta. You can eat 150g of fish per week, which is 3 small tins of tuna or one serving only of Flake. It's the fish at the high end of the food chain, that eat all of the other fish, and are therefore very high in magnesium.
Hope this helps.
Tash - I would probably have 1-2 little tins of tuna a week when preggo with Gab but it's the only seafood I would eat so I figured I'd be ok!
Tash, there is a risk of too much Mercury with tuna and other fish like flake.
I didn't eat any ham while I was pg as I didn't think it was worth the risk. That's just me though, some do and some don't.
Sorry! MERCURY not Magnesium!!!!!
You are right. I said that to the GP too last Thursday and she corrected me.
Must be the baby brain!! haaa haaa, can blame it on that in this forum.![]()
I have a new boss today and have made some embarrassing mistakes, and can't blame it on anything in front of him. After lunch I have to keep sucking in my pot when ever I'm near another staff member.
I hate this part of the unknown, not good with suspense as you can tell!![]()
If you're concerned about foods that you can and can't eat etc, just don't that's the best advise I can give!!
