The travel-sick wrist bands worked for me, but I occassionally still felt sick.
As for the mental side of things, I"m afraid I don't have much to offer. It REALLY got me down a lot and I was adamant that Bob would be an only child! People continually telling me "Oh, you'll get better soon" didn't help!!!!
Only a few weeks later and I'm feeling a million times better and in a much better frame of mind. Sorry, I have no advice and I don't want to be one of those people to say "Oh, you'll feel better soon"!
My friend is a midwife and I was chatting with her the other day re: this joyous thing called m/s ( ) and she said that there are things that doctors can prescribe these days that are harmless to the baby. She also said that it is understandable that pg women don't want to put any drugs into their systems for fear of it affecting bubs but again, she reassured me that they are completely safe for our little bubbas.
It's a personal choice but if it means that your sister starts enjoying her journey it will certainly assist in her picking up mentally!
I completely understand too so I hope she gets thru this soon!!!
As crazy as it sounds (and people always look at me weirdly when i say it), green apples got me throught the first 20 weeks of m/s. Nothing else worked that was suggested. No one told me green apples but i learnt to eat them from about 7 weeks onwards. Had to be cold though, really cold apples helped more then room temperature ones.
I also found apples were good.
My doctor prescribed Maxolon for me too which helped a bit.
I think I lived on apples and milk arrowroot biscuits for first 12 weeks of my pregnancy lol.
Hope she feels better soon.
Hello
to those of you who have/are expereincing morning sickness - do you have some days that are worse than others or is it fairly constant?.
I have been finding that some days I feel absolutely terrible, while others only mildy so. On the days I dont feel as bad I start thinking that something may have happened to the baby, but then usually the following day I am back to feeling terrible. But I cant help but stressing and wondered if others had experienced similar
Jem
yeah with lucy I was all over the place i would feel great in the morning but be aweful at night... dont stress stress is bad for bubs!!!
HTH goodluck

Amy:doh:
Hi Jemima,
I had the same thing. Some days I would feel absolutly awful, other days not as bad. I know it rings alarm bells but try not to feel too stressed. Can you tell by other ways? i.e. nipple size, breast tenderness, tiredness.
HI,
yep I have some days that are not as bad as others. Monday I didnt feel too bad and got to have a nap as the little ones slept at the same time. Today I feel terrible, sick and tired. I feel like I could sleep for a week. With my first I was sick constantly with my other two I was like this, some days are worse than others. Try not to worry, just make the most of the good days.
Yea I Know How You Feel One Day U Feel Ok But Worried That Something Has Happened But The Next Your Back To Feeling Bad Again Just When I Think It's Getting Better It Goes Back To Being Bad. Even Just Lookin At Things Now Makes Me Feel Sick Or The Smell Of Somethings Like When My 2 Yr Old Lets Off Omg I Have To Make A Run For It To The Bathroom Nothing Seems To Help Wish I Had M/s Like I Did With Key Only 3 Days Of It Not Weeks On End
I got the worst morningsickness - 30 out of 37 weeks!. I hope the morning sickness eases! but when i stopped getting morning sickness i stressed for the whole last 7 weeks!
I'm just curious as to how long morning sickness lasts for>? What are your experiences with it?
Hi there, I had all day sickness from about 6 to 15 weeks. Nausea all day and vomiting at least once a day. It got especially bad at about 8 weeks, but was pretty much completely gone from about 16 weeks. I did have a little episode over NY for a few days, but it's gone again now YAY!
I can tell you, it's so nice to feel relatively normal again, and to be able to enjoy life! The only thing that's hung around is the gagging, I still can't brush my teeth properly LOL!
I hope that your ms doesn't hang around too long, it really is the pits :)
Hello, congrats on your pregnancy!
I had yukky all day sickness from about 5 weeks. It started to ease off about 11 or 12 weeks. I was sick everyday, but I would have to say that mine was also at its worst at around the 8 or 9 week mark. Since then, I have felt a bit off every now and then and had a few times where I have spewed, but most of the time I've been feeling quite good.
ohhh i just got my bfp and am dreading morning sickness to the point where i am scared of it!!!
I'm nearly in my 9th week, and my morning sickness has peaked! I have it all day...have even gone off my food. Must be bad for all of us around the 8 - 9th week mark?
I felt pretty bad from weeks 7-12... I went off food and everything. Now at 12 wks I am feeling relatively normal and starting to eat more food again. Just gotta make sure I dont get too hungry or I'll be at the loo!
Mysti yeah mine was rather bad around that time, and I went to my GP and got some Maxolon which helped a little bit. Some people use ginger too which helps some people. I just ate milk arrowroots all day and made sure I was taking my vitamins, because pretty much any food would just come back up pretty quickly. I hope it goes away soon.
Actually I found that too Veronica, about being sick if I was very hungry!
Noni i hope its not too bad for you.
I had MS from about 8 wks to 19 wks, usually involving a vomit most mornings and all-day nausea. Weirdly, I found eating a pretty greasy breakfast (e.g. bacon and eggs) at about 9am (after I'd already had a vomit) usually helped the nauseous feeling.
Hi Cherie - I hear you on the greasy food. I had mild all day nausea (never peaked into vomiting) from 5 weeks through to 18-19 weeks. The only food that would ever 'cut' that nauseous feeling was deep fried items (!) preferably protein. That goes against every thing you read about what foods to steer clear of!
I found B6 helped and lots of small snacks throughout the day, as well as getting a rest as if I got too tired it was worse.
:-)
awww did someone say bacon and eggs, I've had craving for bacon and eggs, that now sounds really nice for brekky
With my 3 girls I had m/s all day every day for 12 weeks, with this baby I had m/s sickness early on for a couple of weeks then it's seamed to be not so bad, if I get too tired or eat the wrong food I feel a bit crook and I agree with that I to get sick feeling if I get too hungry. I find honey on toast and a cup of tea settles thing down :D I'm actually surprised by the lack of m/s I'm feeling with this baby, but I'm already expanding  so I know that all's well. At 10 weeks I'm cruising along. Now where's that bacon and eggs :D
Rose baby#4
Not everyone gets it - I never had any at all and my baby is perfectly fine! So don't worry if you don't get any at all!! :)
I guess we are all different when it comes to morning sickness. Some get it bad TO mild, while others don't get it at all. I totally agree on the greasy food - Bacon and Eggs does wonders! I only ever vomit once a day, and thats when i first wake up....but i have all day nausea. I keep hearing about ginger??? Might give it a go. Not that i was ever a big fano f ginger...lol
Mysti, the Women and Children's hospital in Adelaide did a study ( you can read about it on their website) where they found that ginger significantly reduced severity of M/S (by about 50%) in the majority of cases, whether mild or severe. They did a similar thing with B6, and Blackmores has a morning sickness formula that contains the ginger and the B6 together in the dosage amts recommended by these studies.
I have some of these and will take them religiously and hopefully we can avoid the worst of it this time round (I'm already craving ginger, can't get enough ginger beer and ordered Ginger Chicken at the Chinese place last night, it was supposed to be for sharing but I practically ate the LOT)!! If you don't like ginger the tablets are the way to go, I reckon.
:-)
Thankyou Marydean....Much appreciated :D
I used the tablets and found that they did help a little....as long as you take them religously!
has anyone else tried the preggy pops?
Hi sajemsha
I have m/s all day everyday, got worse around the 9 week mark.
I have tried the preggie drops (same thinkg but lollies not lolly pops). They are good while you are sucking on them and they are a good size so they last a while. And I think I get continued relief after I've finished one for about 30 minutes or so.
The lady I bought them off said she had heaps of positive feedback. Ithink the more sever m/s you have then the less they work. I keep some in my hand bag for when I get stuck out somewhere and start to feel REALLY average.
Hi girls, firstly I am by no means complaining about having morning sickness. I would start panicing if I woke one morning and had none, but I am feeling pukey all day and worse at night.
I am waking in the night vomiting! I have tried snacking on crackers, gingernut biscuits (all worked with Shelby) but I just cannot stomach the thought of eating. Even the smell of vegemite is making me feel queasy.
What can I do to take the edge of it? I dont want to get medicated, I seem to be able to keep fluids down, I just feel like I am on a boat when I lay down at night
Hey
I dont no how much help i am going to be but just wanted to say that with this pregnancy
in the first trimester i couldnt eat anything and nothing would help
but i had to try something so a tried fruit like oranges realy made me feel alot better and drinking hot orange hit the spot too
i hope that you find something that settles your m/s
Take care
Eve
I know how you feel. My pregnancy last year had me feeling like that. I did find that not laying flat helped a lot. I had a large flattish, tapered foam wedge cut and found that if I lay on that, it helped to control the "rolling bed" syndrome.
I also found that keeping the fluids up with things like fruit juice and milkshakes helped to control the blood sugar levels and eased the night sickness off a bit so that I could at least sleep.
Lisa
*hugs* I'm sorry - I don't really have any advice as my m/s wasn't as bad as yours sounds. I was going to suggest not lying flat too - maybe some well-placed pillows might help?
Hope it eases up for you soon.
I had morning sickness at night with DS and the only thing that helped me was popcorn.
Thanks for the hints. I have found laying on my side helps a bit, but I suppose it's because by the evening I am exhausted making it worse. I am finding that the nausea (not just little waves, full on near puking) is eased with eating something but comes back within about 10mins of finishing. I cant eat all day, I will be the size of a house.
I am going out tomorrow to stock up on fresh fruit and will prepare carrot sticks etc to nibble on all day. I also bought a popcorn machine so might make up a batch.
Please keep the hints coming. i had all day sickness with Shelby until 32 weeks, and this is worse. Hopefully it means a healthy bub
I'm sure it means a healthy bub Clare, but I do feel really sorry for you! I had 24 hour sickness until 16 weeks and it's awful! All I can suggest is to keep up the snacks before you go to bed to help your blood sugar, eat whatever doesn't make you vomit, and try sleeping propped up a bit (I know that's awful). My ms started off with me needing to eat all the time from about 6-8 weeks, then it switched to me hardly eating at all! I'm just starting to put on weight now.
I really hope it eases up a little for you soon!
Hi Clare - full sympathies and I hope you can get on top of this and SOON! The Women and Children's Hospital in Adelaide did some recent studies which you can read about on their website - involving using (separate studies) ginger and acupuncture to lessen the effects of morning sickness. Both of these were found to be effective in lessening the severity of symptoms. Blackmores has a morning sickness formula that contains both ginger and B6 in the dose recommended by the study.

I am 61/2 weeks pregnant and have not had anything! Besides having a sick taste in my mouth a couple of days it would be nothing. My bb's have only been sore and if it wasn't for the BFP I wouldn't know I was pregnant.
I'm concerned about not having any symptoms. Has anyone not had any ms?
Don't fret, Lulu. Often m/s doesn't kick in until 7-8 weeks. I know with my first I was crook as a dog from 7-17 weeks!
This time I haven't vomitted (yet!) but I do feel queasy in the mornings and sometimes all day. It didn't start until 7-8 weeks and is still going at 13 and a bit weeks.
You'll start getting stronger symptoms soon enough. Remember... a lot of women don't even know they're pregnant until well into the first trimester (sometimes longer!) so it is possible to have very few symptoms in the early weeks :)
