I was only permitted to have two scans for each pg - a dating scan, and the 20-wk scan. Upon getting a referral from my GP, who only refers to the Mater, I was told I had to pay $320 for each scan (although first time around I got it for $27 thanks to my HCC, although I nearly didn't get it at concession price because my GP 'failed to specify why I needed one' on the referral and they had to do a bunch of last-minute faxes to get what they needed), and would not get anything back from Medicare. If I wanted cheaper scans (as I didn't have my HCC with DD2), I had to go to the local ER and wait for an appt with a doctor who could confirm my pg and get me set up for antenatal appts with the midwives so that *they* could refer me, and even then I couldn't get my dating scans through them as they didn't see me before I had a huge tummy and was waddling everywhere.
