    Smile Pilates combatting tiredness?????

    Hi,

I have made enquiries into pregnancy pilates. I have had depression in the past and can feel it kind of creeping back, ie not wanting to get out of bed, go places ect. I thought I would make an effort to do some excersice and was wondering if anyone has done pilates before? I am hoping the commitment will keep me busy. I am only 11 weeks and am working full time, mainly night shifts which dont help. Really supportive husband and family, but feel a bit lost.

    thanks,
    muude

Make sure it's a pregnancy class. A lot of pilates instructors claim their classes are pregnancy friendly but often that is not the case and sometimes results in an injury to the pregnant woman.

I currently do pregnancy yoga and antenatal aqua aerobics once a week each and I go for a 30 min walk when I can. The pregnancy classes are fantastic and I get to socialies with other pregnant woman - lots of fun and we have great chats.

Exercise is fabulous for helping lift depression not to mention great for you and bubs. Definitely get out if you can - I'm sure you will feel a whole lot better

    Hi Muude
Welcome to BB and good on you for recognising the signs early - I agree with Taurean, exercise is a great way to help lift when you feel a bit blue - i have lots of family experience with depression.

Also with pilates too!! I have practiced floor-based and equipment-based pilates for a number of years now and have continued all through my pregnancy. I'm currently also training as an instructor. Most definitely look for a class that is pregnancy specific, or a pilates / yoga specific studio that has experienced instructors. Many these days have a background in physiotherapy as well. I would avoid the gym based classes claiming to be pilates or yogalates etc.

At the studio I train with we recommend that women who haven't done pilates before start at the beginning of the 2nd trimester - simply because the 1st can be a fragile time for the body during pregnancy - but at 11 weeks you're not far from that. What state are you in? I can probably send you some links to the associations that represent good studios so you can look into them further?

Send me a PM if you want to know any more.

    Lolly
