    Progesterone pessaries and brown discolouration

    Hello Ladies,

I was told by my IVF clinic last monday that i was 4weeks and 1day pregnant my hcg level at the time was 235, the same day when i went to the loo (TMI warning) when i wiped that toilet paper was browish - not alot and then nothing else. I am on progesterone pessaries 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening. I have had another blood test this monday and my hcg level is 3090 and again when i went to the loo this week Tuesday same thing. I have read before (i think) that being on progesterone pessaries can cause this - but it is still worrying. I did calll my clinic last week when it first happened and the nurse said she THINKS its from the pessaries - has anyone else experienced this.

Unfrotunately i havent experienced it, i've never had IVF and honestly have no idea what Pessaries is but i had some bleeding (approx tsp)early on in my preg (5wk3day) and the day after i was getting a browny colour and the doc says it was just dry blood. Hope it helps and at the same time doesnt alarm you. Looks as though your hormone levels are going strong though, mine went from approx 750 to 22000 in 5 days.
Hope all is well, good luck

Lissie, I've had some brownish discharge from the progesterone pessaries I'm on for my current cycle. I'm only on one per day, and that has at times irritated my cervix, so I can imagine that four per day is doing so even more. I hope it settles and all is well, but please keep in touch with your clinic if it continues. They should be able to keep doing blood tests to check that HCG levels are rising appropriately until you are far enough along for a scan.

Congrations on your pregnancy by the way!

I'll third what the others have said - i was advised it is very common for the progesterone (whether it be pessaries or crinone) to irritate your cervix and create some mild bleeding. i was advised if it was a large amount, or fresh blood (as opposed to older brown) to contact the clinic immediately - but if it's a small amount of old blood it should be ok. as the others have said though, if you're concerned, contact your clinic - you pay them big bucks to get you pregnant - the least they can do is set your mind at ease now!!

and ditto again - congrats on the pregnancy!

    Hi there,
yes, I experienced this also. I got heaps of brown stuff that I thought was old blood, but I was told it was just the cream (I had the cream) coming back out.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and goodluck!
