    Exclamation Bleeding in early pregnancy...

    Hi Everyone...
Had a yuck day today. I am 7 weeks pregnant and this morning I noticed some brownish discharge. This afternoon, after going to the toilet I noticed I was bleeding. Not enough to wear a pad, no drips but definately blood. It was bright with no discharge. I went to the Dr. who said to take it easy for the next 48 hours and if need be to get an ultra sound done in 24 if the bleeding persists. I have an 8 month old and this pregnancy caught us by suprise. I am 40 we did not think I would fall pregnant again so quickly. I am feeling so worried. Anybody experienced this in early pregnancy??

I hope the bleeding settles down and the PG goes ok. Some women do bleed and go onto have healthy babies.

My experience with bleeding in pregnancy is - brown is OK as it's old blood - red spotting or bleeding has always meant m/c for me personally. Make sure you do nothing at all for 48 hours.

This happened to a friend of mine Fellow Traveller. She was very concerned as she had also had a couple of miscarriages and was 39 at the time. I'm glad to say that all turned out fine and she is due in early March. So try not to worry too much. I think she went and got her hcg levels tested so it may be worth asking about that if it will put your mind at ease. I think it just involves a blood test that can be done by your GP rather than waiting for an ultrasound to be done by a specialist.

    Hi Fellow Traveller,

I recommend going to see your Dr, OB or MW as soon as you can, last week I started a Brown Discharge and had HB check Friday and Nice and strong, I am having a checkup scan tomorrow morning. OB and MW were not overly concerned saying Brown Discharge is quite common, but if it turnedred and strted flowing to contact them immediately. It is not necessary bad but I recommend making contact ASAP. Get your HCG levels checked or get a US to give you some relief either way and try not to be stressed and I know that is easier said than done!!!

Also MW said to not do anything for a few days, no lifting, no shopping, standing for long periods of time, put your feet up on the couch and do nothing!!!

My discharge was only ever brown and has lightened (in colour and amount) up significantly in the last day or so and I am hoping it is at the end!!! BB is a brilliant support mechanism and the wonderful people on here have gotten me through the last week!

Wishing you all the best Hun and praying that is settles down for you

I had bleeding at around 9 weeks and 11 weeks and everything was fine. Try to rest and lay down as much as you can.

I had bleeding in all my pregnancies and went on to have healthy bubbas! Plenty of bed rest is essential! I know that would be hard with another bubba though! I had both brownish and bright red blood, but just keep an eye on colour, how much and clots etc. Fingers crossed for you!! (*congrats* also!)

I hope everything is ok for you.

I have heard this is a common thing to happen, and many women go on to have healthy babies.

I had bright red bleeding at 9 weeks PG with DD. I had to put a pad in my knickers, it was like AF! This started at night, I put the pad in & went to bed. In the morning it had stopped but I had an u/s that day to make sure all was well, which it was. I now have a healthy 2 1/2 yr old.
I would suggest rest & perhaps organise an u/s ASAP to put your mind at ease, I know my u/s reallt reassured me! (I had suffered a m/c the previous year & was sure I was losing the second one too so I was quite stressed until I saw the heartbeat)

I hope all goes well for you & the rest of your pregnancy is stress free.

It's good to hear that other people have had bright red bleeding and still gone on to have healthy bubs.

I had quite a big bleed on Monday night - enough to need a pad (although only 1), and full on drip drip drip when I was on the toilet. It stopped after a few hours though, and then nothing yesterday, and just brown with CM today (which I figure is old blood from Monday night).

Now, the bad part for me is I'm supposed to be 7 - 71/2 weeks. Well, I had an ultrasound done yesterday which showed a sac measuring 6 weeks 2 days, and no fetal pole (also showed a large hemorrhage, which explains the bleeding). Doc has said to go back for a repeat scan next week to see if bubs has grown. It's going to be hard waiting, but I'd rather know for sure. And we didn't get a positive pregnancy test till a few days after AF was due, so I guess it's possible I wasn't as far along as we thought.

So I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but at the same time trying not to get my hopes up too much...

Bleeding is so scary with my daugher who is now 18 months I had a bleed at 10 weeks.

It was bright red and like a VERY heavy period for 5-6 hours followed by 2-3 very large clots I was so surprised and happy to see the heart beat when they did the scan the following day.

So you can bleed ALOT and still have a healthy bub BUT always have it checked out and get a scan for your own peace of mind........good luck!!
