what can you do for thrush in pregnancy?

I have just had a week long course of antibiotics for a sinus/throat infection and have developed and itchy burning sensation down below which I am 99% sure is thrush, I have a tube of caneston cream from the last case of thrush I had and am unsure if i need to go to the gp to establish that it IS thrush or am I able to start treating it myself with out consultation (would advice from a pharmasist be enough?) I am just over 13 weeks PG, any ideas?

I used the topical canestan cream but did make sure that I had it checked first. Also don't forget to get DH treated as well so that you don't keep passing it on to each other.

I used Canesten also while I was pregnant.
During pregnancy a pharmacist will generally ask you if you have had it diagnosed previously.
As i hadn't I had to go to the doctor, get an unnecessary script just to prove that all was ok.
If you have had it before and you're certain it's thrush it shouldn't be a big deal.

There is a high recommendation for using natural products like InLiven or Inner Health Plus as well. But i don't know much about them, just have them in mind for next time.

I read in a couple of my pregnancy books that you can use tampons dipped in either yoghurt or vinegar (might have been a particular sort, can't remember) and insert for about 10 minutes (I think). You might want to google this to get the correct info on it first though.

With the natural yoghurt, it's probably best to insert it yourself. Make sure it's the natural yoghurt though.
You can also try drinking cranberry juice, or a teaspoon of bi-carb soda in a glass of water. These 2 methods will lower the ph in your urine.
If it keeps recurring, best to get it checked out by your GP. Also the suggestion about getting your DP checked out is a good one too, otherwise it'll be going backwards and forwards between you both.

i just went through the very same thing... i was on antibiotics and and got the tell tale itch.... i have got some probiotics which are little tablets to have once a day when you have been taking antibiotics, they cleared it up right away, just make sure you ask for jelp as i was told there are a few we cant have when rpegnant, but there is one that is safe...

I used Canesten when I was around 10 weeks pregnant with DS. The pharmacist said it was fine to use... you only use it for a few days anyway. I'd just double check with your Pharmacist first though

I was also told by the pharmacist that canestan is safe - although other brands are not.
