I think we waited to tell everyone until after 12 weeks each time, except my first when I had to tell work at around 8 weeks due to the chemicals I was working with. I think we might have told our parents around then too. I didn't tell my local friends until around 15 weeks with DD1 because I didn't know them that well back then and it didn't come up in conversation. I held off until around 15 weeks with DD2 because my best friend was TTC for over a year and I really wanted her to be pregnant when I told her (guilt over an oopsie baby when she desperately wanted one). I would have hidden it longer but it was getting a bit obvious by then.
I told family and very close friends and also my work about 4-5 weeks. Im a nurse so it was important work new so I could be allocated "safe" patients.
I told my friends on fb last week so 14 weeks. I wanted to see a 12 week scan first before I announced only due to my m/c in the past.
Its totally up to the individual, I also didnt want to announce it on fb due to DH having family over in south africa who we wanted to tell in person.
We had not told anyone when we lost our first at 7weeks.
For DS we waited to tell our families until after the 12 week scan to make sure all was ok. I told work at 24 weeks as I was still not really showing then.
Since we lived remotely, and I did not really want to announce on facebook, most of our friends in the real world did not find out until I moved to syd temporarily 6 weeks before ds was due. They pretty much figured it out when we were having catch ups
Its so personal and I would go with what feels right for you. At the end of the day if the people you want to know are in the loop, the others can wait until your 6 year old bursts with excitement!
