28 wks pg and severe kidney pain

    Hello,

I'm 28 weeks pg and suffering pain in the area around my kidneys. It started during the night and I thought it might be the pressure of the baby on my organs when I lay on my back, although I try to sleep on my side sometimes I wake up on my back.

The last few nights I've slept on my side all night but the pain is just as bad and continues through the day, I sometimes feel sick from the pain!

Has anyone else had this? What can I do to relieve it?

Go to the Dr today and get it checked out!! My sister had to have a kidney removed soon after her first child was born and her symptoms started while she was pregnant.
I don't want to scare you but kidney pain shouldn't be ignored.

I agree- go see a doctor. Hopefully it's something minor but it could be an infection or something that could do with some help.

how much water do you drink? that is going to be of the utmost importance...

you could go to your local health food store, they would have a good kidney tonic tea, just make sure you let them know you're pregnant. avoid juniper. Nettle would be excellent... good for breastmilk too

Hi Kristen, just checking up on you because I was a bit worried about you. Have you seen a Dr yet? I hope it went ok.
It's great to drink more water but you shouldn't ignore or dismiss pain in any of your organs.

    Kristen, I second Dach.

I had exactly the same at around the same time. Actually put me in hospital on morphine.
Turns out I've had lifelong ongoing renal problems that just weren't ever picked up until the strain of pregnancy made them go nuts.
It could be a thousand things. I have reflux in one and a blockage out of my kidney in the other just to name 2.

Get some tests done sooner rather than later. I have ongoing issues that can't be sorted for a while yet.

    Hi,

Thanks for your advice and concern, I'm feeling better today - still going to get it checked out but can't get into a doctor until tuesday because monday is a public holiday here....

I drink 2 litres + of water per day so that should be enough?

Thanks again, I'll let you know what the doctor says!

Kristen, I always try to keep mine over that to make sure they are flushed out (yep you get used to the amount), but because i have reflux it's not always the amount - it just means more urine to travel the wrong way into my kidney...ah can't win.

    GL tomorrow.
