Don't know really - they say the craving being the result of something you're lacking in your diet thing is a bit of a myth unless we're talking about pica (non-food stuff) which is an actual medical condition, but I tend to get random cravings for all kinds of weird things that I don't like that are only relieved by having a little of whatever I'm craving.

I don't like diet coke either, maybe coke zero might be ok? Otherwise keep it to a small bottle (390ml) and see if that takes the edge off?

    Hi everyone,

I am not too keen on diet coke, but LOVE coke zero (tastes much more like 'real' coke. The funny thing is that I usually go completely off all caffinated drinks whilst pregnant - cann't tolerate the stuff for some reason. And whilst I was like that at the begining of this pregnancy, I am now craving the stuff - and not bottled / canned coke zero - but the syrup stuff you get from Macca's!!! (which I usually don't like). I have been buying one almost everyday! When usually I would be lucky to have one can of softdrink in a week while not pregnant. At least it isn't chocolate, or I would be even bigger, and I already feel the size of a blimp.

JBM - I hope your injury gets better soon.

crankykitten: yeah cravings ?, who really understands them ?. not me. i was wanting roast meat and vegies with gravy. i want savory stuff and i am normally a sweets person. and i got some cheesecake the other day ( my all time fav dessert) and i felt sick after eating it. then the next day couldn't even eat it and put it back in the fridge. DH said i must be "VERY "sick .good luck to you

AFM: well i had an egg with a mushroom and a little baked beans for breaky. still not done weigh in yet. maybe scared of what my scales might say ?. am starting to pop out more and DH said i look pregnant now. feeling it too.
still sore and walking hurts but trying to be good with eating.

    hello!

I have been eating pretty badly today ...
2 slices of raisin toast with marg and an apple and OJ for brekky (not too bad) but have eaten 3 little packs of shapes for morning tea with mineral water ... keep on needing to munch on things to keep the m/s at bay!

am trying to have chamomille tea instead, and have 2 apples on my desk, but they don't look as appealing as the rest of the little packs of shapes hiding in my drawer ...

maybe I'll just have my lunch (beef & potato soup) early ...

I'm thinking I should definitely have lost a bit at my next checkup - I've barely been eating anything because of my sore mouth. And then when I have managed, it gets hit with m/s and I puke....*sigh*

Suggestions for healthy soft food that isn't soup?

do you like rice pudding, or stew?

chilli con carne (maybe very mild, if your mouth is sore) or pastabake or savoury mince with noodles...

soft healthy food that isn't soup..... rissotto? sorry pregnant brain, cann't really think of any.

Well I slurged a bit last night and got turkish for dinner - not that bad really, but I did eat more turkish bread and carrot dip then I should have. But it has all been tracked in my food journal and accounted for. I have been good today so far, but I am sooo exhausted and DH is at army reserves tonight, so I have to do school pick up and handle the kids myself tonight (ie, dinner, bath, bed). Fingers crossed the kids are well behaved - because when I am tired and stressed is when I tend to overeat; and there is still turkish bread and dip in the kitchen...

OK. So I have been naughty, and off track lately. And I am paying the price for it. I weigh in at the midwives on wed and I have gained 2kgs since my last weigh in (according to my scales), and because I have been eating junky packaged foods (with high salt content) rather then healthy fresh food, I have suddenly in the past 2 days been blown up with fluid. I hadn't had a problem with fluid rentention until now.

But I am back again, and determined to eat healthy once more. I am hoping this fluid will dissapear once I start eating better again - and hopefully some of the weight it brought with it. I'm not sure it will improve before my midwives appointment on wednesday, but I just feel so uncomfortable and swollen, I will just be happy if it goes down at all. Less then 6 weeks left to until my EDD. Keep me strong until then girls!

    4kg sounds reasonable.
Did your doc or midwives give you an indication of how much you should be gaining for this pregnancy? Because it will vary depending on where you are starting from.

the doc said i can go up to 108 kg as that is just under BMI of 35 for my height and that gives me another 13 kg to go. i put on 14 kg with DS 1 about 16 kg with DS 2 and 19 kg with DS 3, so i thnk it is achievable. but all my babies are big and they don't take that into account. they were between 4 kg and 4.5 kg each and all early too. i'm trying to be in control of what i am eating and i am eating less than before preg so that must be good, but doing heaps less due to strains and pains and bleeding ? so prob evens out

    Hello everyone,

How did we all handle fathers day?

I induldged a bit (some of DH's chocolates in the morning, and homemade lasanga for dinner - the lasanga wasn't that bad, because I made it and could control what was in it, but I did have a double helping ). But I still managed to stay on track and just worked these induldgences into my eating plan. Very happy about that.

I weighed in this morning and have lost alot of the weight I had gained last week (retained alot of fluid last week, which seems to have mostly disappeared) - so things are going well on that front too. I have a midwives appointment on wednesday - soo no doubt they will weigh me in on their scales again, so I can see if there is any real difference.

Father's day wasn't too bad actually - lunch at the in-laws consisted of chicken and salad, with a fruit platter for dessert. Blew it out the window with pizza for dinner though, but figured one indulgence for the week wasn't going to kill me.

Been making salads for lunch at work when making them for dinner, so on the whole a pretty good week food wise.

My hospital (which I REALLY want to attend) has tight restrictions around BMI and weight gain during pregnancy. They have been monitoring my weight throughout this pregnancy and have made very clear to me from the begining that they didn't want me to gain much weight, and indeed if I chose to I could even look at loosing a little whilst pregnant. If I go over a certain point I will no longer get to be a patient there, but will be transferred directly to another hospital. So far I have managed to limit my weight gain to less then 6kgs. I am only 'allowed' to gain an absolute maximum of 4.8kg more before the hospital will no longer take me.
Are they insane? All three of my pregnancies I've gained 20-25kg (always stopping at exactly the same weight) and I imagine I'd be over every limit there is, I know I'm way over the recommendations. If its percentage wise, gaining more than half your bodyweight is bad. But I also lose it very fast and have to really go out of my way to eat extra or I lose it TOO fast and end up looking like some kind of skeletal zombie with hollow eyes.

    Are they seriously this inflexible?

RE - it depends where a person is starting from. Personally, I was starting from WAY over my healthy weight range. When I started my second pregnancy from my Healthy weight range, it was no issue medically with me gaining the 20+kgs that I did. The bar changes when you start from a higher weight. My sister was actively encouraged to gain 30kgs when she was pregnant - but she was starting from under the bottom of her healthy weight range.

Ok, that's a bit less of a what-the. I tend to read all the stuff that says you're supposed to gain 10-15kg max when you're pregnant and raise an eyebrow at that too, and there are even boxes on the paperwork to tick if you gain more than 4kg a month, which I seem to do quite efficiently in the first trimester. I know I'm on the more extreme end of the pregnancy weight gain spectrum, I gained 27kg with my first and that's NOT water retention, its mostly fat. I would have had a BMI of about 17 as a start point though ...

I haven't stopped eating like a horse since ... geez, almost two years now, with 22kg gained and lost now. I don't know how anyone could resist the urge to just eat anything that gets near them when they're pregnant, you people must have wills of iron

I know my partner certainly lacks will power, I eat more (the house gets full of snacks) and he eats more but he has a slower metabolism than me (as well as having been on some of those unhelpful drugs that mess with your weight) and he eats less than me normally and has gained a good 15-20kg since we met. His endocrinologist basically told him if he went over 80kg, BMI or no BMI, they'd tag him as too overweight to continue with his treatment and to go off and lose 15kg. Funny how some people get scolded over their weight gain and some don't ...

so I haven't gained any weight yet this pg (I've actually lost some, from m/s) and at my appointment today, I was referred to the dietician ... not sure what they're going to say, but it can't hurt ...

but I feel like screaming, because my weight gain is from depression occasioned by the trauma of my last birth ... last pg I gained 15kgs and no one batted an eyelid.

this pg I'm not supposed to gain any weight, if possible, and limit it to 5kgs if not ...

I just need to get the motivation to get some exercise ... it's just hard to find that motivation!
