My DS was circumcised for medical reasons at 12 months of age. He was born with renal problems and had recurrent UTI's for the first year of his life, despite prophylactic antibiotic's. The circ. was performed at the very strong recommendation of two urologists. He had it done under general anesthesia (he had a couple of other things done in regard to his renal system at the same time). He was quite sore for about a week or so afterwards and would cry when I had to clean his penis or occasionally when he was crawling around. He stopped taking his AB's at about 16 months and I am very pleased to say he has not had a single UTI since then, as the urologist's said he most likely would not.

He is now 5 and attends kinder with 12 or 13 other boys. Only two other boys in his class are circ'd. They do see each other's penis, at the toilets or when they are getting changed after swimming or getting muddy. The boys have noticed and commented on the differences, but they make no judgement; they are just curious to know why they look different. The circ'd boys are certainly not teased or made to feel 'odd'.
