    Question Could this be SPD?

For the last couple of days I've felt a lot of pain in my hip joint, but only on my left side. It hurts so much today that I can hardly walk and if I move the wrong way I get the most excruciating pain in my hip joint, but it's only on the one side.

I had this type of pain a couple of weeks ago as well, not this bad, but it seemed to just resolve itself and now it's back.

Could this be SPD? Does it come and go or is SPD a constant pain? Does anyone have any tips for pain relief as I really am in a lot of pain

I get pain in my hip but mine is sciatica. For that I have to do stretches and it helps. I'm not sure about SPD but a physio can help with whatever it is...big hugs!!

It could be SPD, have a look at https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...atter-1-a.html you will see that many women have pain in different parts of their pelvis. My right hip is the only place I still get intermittent pain 3 years after giving birth.

I have more pain in my hip at the moment, and I have a slight case of SPD, however my hip pain is related to my lower back - my pelvis is holding at the moment - which is good!! I get a bit achy in my groin from my SPD, but its nothing compared to my other pregnancies. So my hip pain isn't SPD, just back related.

My chiro helps with my hip pain, because its my lower back making allowances for the weight gain at the front, and I have a dodgy lower back anyway. Go and get checked out though, so you know for sure

Better to check it out and make sure things are aligned properly than to go through the pregnancy with heaps of pain!!!

I'd highly recommend seeing a physio who specialises in pregnancy related issues.

I had a LOT of trouble with my back, hips and groin while PG and my physio did help a lot. Some of mine was muscular (simply due to the strain from the extra weight) but a lot was hormone related - everything was softening and moving to prepare for DDs birth.

I feel for you. Those aches and pains can be really awful

It could be the start of SPD

I had SPD with my recent pregnancy and OMG the pain!!
Even sitting in one place was excuriating, walking was nothing but pain everything was so bad that i couldnt bear it..
I was referred to a physio throught the hossy and ended up with a belt and harness to support my hips it literally felt like they were going to pop out of place..
Just to walk out the front to the car would make me want to cry and then to sit and drive and then try and get out and walk again OOHHH THE AGONY!!!

Its quiet common you will be suprised and is common after a numerous amount of babies, i guess your hormones relax your muscles too much..
My pelvis actually was tilted that much that i had to go to physio alot to release tension in my muscles and pelvis.
The pain is very painful and if you get it early your lucky because they can offer you treatment to ease the pain which is normally almost constant depending on how severe your SPD is.

Thanks for the replies. Is it something I should start with by telling my midwife and getting a physio referral or do I just ring around to find a pregnancy physio? Sorry if it's a stupid question but I'm a bit clueless when it comes to these things!

I just pay for my treatment privately and not go through the hospital. Quicker to get an appointment. No referral needed either.

arimeh's right it is alot quicker private but i did get in the next week with the hossy so that was good and it also doesnt cost you anything its through medicare, You can tell your midwife as they may even ring them to try get you in earlier (try exaggerating it abit)
    when is your next appt?
