i am 33 + 5 today and my bubs has been head down since last week or the week before and i was wondering if this was normal... i just had a growth scan and the scan showed that he is not just head down but right down in my pelvis (i feel like i have a basketball bouncing on my cervix/bladder!!). my MIL said he might come early if hes already engaged, how likely is this?
hes also measuring at 34+6 weeks in all measurements...except his head...thats measuring as 36-37 weeks is that likely to increase much? cos holy crap thats kinda daunting!
You know ultra sounds are just high frequency sound waves bouncing around, yeah? It's pretty incredible that it shows up the picture of a baby at all... let alone being able to provide accurate measurements...
They are known for being wrong, don't stress. Your body won't make a baby too big for you. Have faith in your body to do it's natural job - women are supposed to birth - you'll be fine.
As for premature delivery... babies are known to engage and 'dis'engage right up until birth. Some don't until in labour. It doesn't give us a great measure of anything other than false hope from everyone else telling us it means baby will come soon!
Try and relax and enjoy these last few weeks of being together just you and your partner. Befoore you know it your baby will be 2 and you'll realise you haven't had a romantic night in that long
At this stage your baby has almost finished growing & is more about putting on weight to keep him warm
It is very normal for babies to engage (head right down) weeks before labour. Especially a first baby. Just because the head has started decending doesn't mean its all the way down yet either. It may only be half way & needs to drop a little more
My first was fully engaged at 36 weeks, but wasn't born til just over 41 weeks Don't worry about head size either All sounds normal. Babies head may only be 2cm bigger than average is all
Wow hun, it sounds like bubs size is really good even if you do have a smaller bump
DD had a big head as wel, and it still is, but she is completely fine
Bubs definitely can go up and down even late in pregnancy, I rmember reading some stories on BB where the bub was enganged quite well and popped out again. If anything happens and you can always message me
Rest up and enjoy these last few weeks of your pregnancy.
Take care xxoo
thanks forthe reasurrance guys, i think im becomeing a hyperchondriac(sp?)! i think i blame the sonogropher tho, shes like oh and his head is measuring several weeks ahead...are you planning on a vaginal birth? me-yes... sonogropher- oh (awkward pause) well i'll just print the report blah blah blah.
Df has a big head as do all the boys in his family but since none of my family do, i was sorta hoping for him to take after me! but glad it means he wont necessarily come early, i would like to have him on or almost on his due date!
beema- hehehe yes my "tidy little bundle" is really harbouring a "giant baby" it seems :P
How dare she say that about vaginal delivery! Our bodies are made to deliver any baby we create! Grrr... !!
Have a look at dubdubdub dot homebirth-only dot com and look in the homebirths part.. These are all tiny women that give birth to big babies.. without medical intervention because they know they are fine.
Aparently big babies are hereditry, and my mum had 5 babies, the smallest being 8p 13oz and the rest being over 9 and a half. And my mum aint no giant thats fo sure! Oh and she never tore (bar one)
Head size doesn't mean much in birth hun. I hate when people who are sposed to be medical professionals do that! What a twit! Wonder if she's even had kids.
My last had the biggest head of my 3 with not even a graze, where as my girls heads were the same size & my tear was worse with my 2nd than it was with my 1st.
I've not had a stitch yet & my babies weren't real small!! There's no real way for anyone to know the actual size of your baby til its born. Not weight, HC anything.
Trust your body. It was made to birth your baby
And the funny think about the head size is that the shoulders have to come up out after the head... pretty sure last time i checked the shoulders were the worst part! He slid out after that though!
:yeahthat:
i had a boof head with DJ, but that didnt make me tare - his bloody sholders did! you're body knows what its doing. sadly some medicos are catching up to this idea.
Dd2 was engaged from about 32 weeks I did go into labour at 35 weeks but dd1 arrived at 34 weeks so it seems I am just inclined to have pre term labours.
my DD1 engaged at 32weeks and was born well at 39weeks. Felt like i had to walk with my hand between my legs to hold the baby in and she had a bit of a wonky head LOL but thats all!
Both of mine were head down for ages...DS#2 decided to come a few days early though...I got to 5cm dialted and he pulled back up and out of the canal.......he has been a monkey ever since! Head sizes...pft! It is the same with the size of Mum, it has no bearing on how big / little her babies will be!
hey all, thanks for all your reassurance!
i had another check up yesterday and they now are not sure when his due date is...they noticed that:
their computer records show me as being 37weeks tomorrow
my dating scan from last year shows me as being 35weeks on sat
AND my growth scan from last week shows me as being 36 weeks tomorrow.....
we have been going by the dating scan that puts my due date as 18th june. so im back again for another check up next week that i think will involve investigating if/how ripe i am *sigh* not that im too fussed if im further along than 1st thought! it just means DF & i need to get off our asses and get a bit more organised!!!! it also means my dad doesnt know whether or not to cancel his business trip to china at the end of May, hes already told me i hav to keep my legs crossed until at least 4th june! LOL!!
but oh well i guess he'll arrive when he feels like it which means (going by the pregnancy) will be at THE MOST inconvenient time possible.
Studies show that you should go off your earliest scan, say your 6 or 8 weeks. Anything after that has too much room for doubt. Let baby tell you when he is ready not some DR!
See if they will go with the dating scan since it will give you a few more weeks until you need any kind of intervention. It's true that later scans won't be accurate. I wonder if the dating scans are too but that's just my opinon and experience but it does mean I get a little bit more time to avoid any talk of another c sect.
