I hear you girls... All i wanted was a salmon sushi rolls when I was pg both times... DH had STRICT orders to run out and get them for me as soon as possible after I gave birth... And man those were good when I got them... Hang in there...
Yep coles has it all I have tuna, avacado & cucumber Ive been having so much lately! its a bit fidly the first few times, but once u get the hang of it, you get heaps done really quick!!!
I always made them fresh when pregnant...and even now occasionally.
They where yummo and not to hard to make once you get used to it.
My then 13 year old son used to make them for me too
Have fun
I am bad and eat them anyway but you can buy the kits from both coles and woolies so it comes with everything you need even the little matt too help you roll them... my winkies love helping me make them... I ate tin tuna while pregnant but like I said I was bad and ate most things this time around
oooh I made these the other night! it was just the best thing ever after avoiding them for so long! (and even having to order udon noodles while watching my friends scoff down the sushi train!)
I made them extra unhealthy by adding lots of kewpie mayo. *droool* I love that stuff! Was so thrilled to find it in coles!
when you get back from coles...
make your sushi rice according to packet instructions (wash it well first, so use a little less water)
add the sushi seasoning (you can make it out of sushi vinegar, sugar and salt, or buy it in a bottle)
spread seasoned rice out on a tray (not metal) and cool it down with electric fan or by fanning it with something
get your seaweed sheet carefully onto the bamboo matt. spoon a few big tablespoons of rice onto to seaweed
wet your fingers (really well!) from a bowl containing water with a splash of sushi vinegar
press the rice out about 0.5-1cm thick (try to make it even) on the seaweed, leaving about 2 cm at the top
in a line at the bottom of the rice, spread your fillings (not too much or it wont close) I used cucumber and tinned tuna mixed with mayo (tinned tuna is safe but dont eat it too often in your week cos of mercury buildup)
roll really tightly using your mat. Its like rolling up a sleeping bag, best if you sort of tuck as you roll. The first bit is the trickiest.
use a lot of water/vinegar mix on your spare cm of seaweed to stick it down to the roll
the trick i tried this time was to wet my hands and rub it all over the outside of the finished roll. This softened the seaweed a bit more and stopped it being too tough on the outside.
serve with mayo and soy (and wasabi if you're that way inclined!
Y.U.M!!!
(ok now I'm totally going to have that again this week!)
