Hi Jaycee, my hubby was diagnosed with whooping cough when I was 16 weeks - we think he got it from one of the foreign workers at his workplace as they don't get blood tests before arriving in Australia to check for those things and a new group had only started working there just under 2 months before - and his GP prescribed antibiotics for both me and our DS without even seeing us as a precaution.
From what I was told and what I researched at the time only a real concern if you are close to term as bub doesn't get any protection from any whooping cough immunisations you have, and it can be deadly for a new born.
Apparently it doesn't cause any developmental problems.
It was a 2 week course of antibiotics for me and DS, and everything is fine now.
Hope that helped a bit I know I panicked majorly when hubby told me he had it lol
