I've just googled your Dr and he's in WA...seems like WA is leading the way with this, and Victoria is lagging seriously behind!

Spoke with Dennis Price today and the head midwife of a private hospital Dennis recommended I call.
Not saying too much - not holding my breath, but what a difference to speak with a man who listens, gives advice, asks questions and genuinely wants to help...I wanted to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

Just a bit of an update from me...I haven't been around much - 3y/o in the house...enough said!
I've been seeing Dennis (now I know why so many love him!) and he's fine with the MA C/s, the hospital as far as I know is okay with it. Last I heard they were waiting on the infections control dept (don't they sound scary!) to have their input but I haven't heard anything so I'm taking it as no news is good news.
Dennis reassured me that it really isn't that big a deal to accommodate this, it's just a matter of changing a few of the the things that they do around but he doesn't seem phased or put off by it at all. Like he said, one's initial reaction is 'you want to do what with the what now?' but after you look into it it's really not that 'out there'.
A lovely lady in Perth who has had a MA C/s has been in touch with me and she recently sent me the DVD of her birth - I've never cried so much, it was fantastic. I'm going to take it to the hospital so whoever wants to can have a look at it.
BTW...this one is another boy! That's 3 'Dukes' in my house. How ever will I survive parenthood?
Will keep you all posted - thanks for all your support and advice.

I have just read this now and I am so happy that you stood up for what you wanted and went to see someone else. That first OB sounds horrid not even offering you a tissue - how cruel. Best of luck with it all and congrats on expecting another boy!

    Mamaduke how inspirational
Following your dreams isn't always easy, but it sure is worth it . I went through a whole range of emotions when reading these posts. I hadn't heard of any woman helping in her own c/c but I THINK IT SOUNDS WONDERFUL .
I'm a big scare bear and have always vowed that if I had to have a c/c that I would want to be put fast to sleep. You have made me challenge that thought as I know how special a moment it is when you bring a baby into this world, and IMO IT SOULDN'T BE BY THE HANDS OF SOME ONE WHO COULDN'T GIVE A CRYING LADY A TISSUE !!! Hopefully your story will help other women around the world to also have a more active roll in there births wether they be by c/c or not.

all the best for you , please keep us informed .

Isn't it great to see women feeling like they can take charge again? For ages we were told not to 'shop around' for doctors, or obstetritians, because that made us 'prescription chasers', and all doctors knew more than us anyway.

Now, women are realising that they know just as much, if not MORE than their doc most of the time. Yes, your doctor may know about textbook pregnancy and labour, but YOU know what feels right for you. And now, women aren't afraid to leave the person who's not helping them, and find someone who will.

I've never been pregnant, obviously I've never been in labour, but I hope that when my time comes, I can show as much self confidence and assurance as all of you women here, who take the time, do the research, and then firmly stick to their guns. Bravo!!
