    Morning (all day) sickness!!!

    Hi girls,

I am nearly 8 weeks pregnant with number 2. I have had a terrible day today with morning sickness. Since week 6 I have been feeliing nauseas on and off all day and I will sometimes vomit in the afternoon. Today though I have been vomiting all day and feeling really sick. i also feel dizzy and weak. I haven't been able to eat properly so that is probably why. I have been taking the blackmores morning sickness formula but it doesn't seem to help.

Is it normal to have days when your ms is worse? I keep worrying that it is food poisoning or something (pretty sure it is not though). Any advice on some ms remedies?

    Thanks!

With DD1 i had all day sickness (vomitting all day kinda thing) and all that worked (well helped) was green apples.

With DS i had nausea and i took Travacalm and B6 tablets...helped heaps

    Also second the B6.

I am going through this now too. I find I feel the worst int he afternoons. I have been using Sea bands and find that they are working great. They work by using acupressure, I got them at the chemist for $20.

ETA you should come and join us in the Oct belly buddies.

yup hun with my first I had it all day almost every day for 7.5 months. It was horrible. All I could keep down was cold milos (sometimes) and toast with vegemite.

Have no help for you really, nothing worked for me. Even tried some medication the hospital gave me which made me worse. Just wanted to tell you your not along.

I second Ozstar- try some sea sickness bands. And come join our buddy group

I actually found those Up'n'Go drinks really good the first time around- get something in your tummy without having to chew, which always made me feel sick

IT won't last forever- eventually you will have bubs and then it has to stop. Hang on in there hun, I know how yucky it feels and I really sympathise.

I really cam empathise. With my first, the only thing I could keep down was burger rings. It took ages to be able to do the 8 week ultrasound because I kept throwing up the water and there wasn't enough getting to the bladder.

Our bodies are capable of taking the beating that comes with normal morning sickness for some time - but if this is completely interfering with your ability to eat then talk to your GP.

Normal Morning Sickness should not stop you from being able to eat and keep some food down. The more severe form can. It can also last the entire pg, which you really don't want. I have managed to limit how bad my HG was this time round with a system born from 5 pgs experience, lol.

I have Multi-B in my bag. One a morning. The Multi-B can't harm you (but never ever take tablet form Vit A while pg). Give that a little while to stay down and take it with as little fluids as possible. Next you need something thats going to soak up the excess stomach fluids doing the hokey pokey in your stomach. Dry foods only work. Sad saying it like that. Anyway this is what I am having at the moment:

Breakfast: Toast with a bit of butter and vegemite (Folate and more B6).
Lunch: Saladas with butter and vegemite.
Dinner: Normal (Unless its Mince, of which I have completely lost the ability to stomach).

Usually its enough to help me eat a full dinner and keep it down, although one of my hard and fast rules is if in the middle of eating ANY of that, I feel I need to be sick. Stop eating immediately. Don't fight it - it just makes you feel worse, let it happen. Usually once you have expelled that lot, you can keep the rest down. Some nights though I just can't finish the dinner at all because its sending my gag reflux wild. Just do what you can.

If it doesn't stop at the beginning of the second tri - then revisit with your doctors how to best cope. And keep an eye on your weight. If you are losing more than 2% of your pre-pregnancy body weight a week, then your doc needs to help more.

    Cheers

    Hi,

I am 21 wks with my first and I still have morning sickness. (Not as bad as it use to be). The first 3 mnths it would last all day...

Try having some dry biscuits in the morning about 10 minutes before you get out of bed. (Keep them next to your bed) ginger biscuits, savoy, salada - anything savoury....

Drink lots of water to stay dehydrated from the vomitting..

Hopefully it will pass soon and you will start to feel better.

    All the best.

Sorry to hear you are going through this hun. I was sick everyday until 6.5 months, so I know your pain- but for most people it gets better waaaay before this. Some days I found were worse than others.

There is heaps of great advice given from the other ladies here, but since everyone is different, I'll tell you what I found worked a little bit for me- protein shakes or drinks. The protein seemed to help calm the quesiness a little, and I could keep it down. I had DH get a yummy choc protein powder from the supermarket and just mixed it with water (couldn't stomach milk) and it was really good for when I couldn't eat anything else. There is also usually some extra vitamins etc in those powders, so at least I knew I was getting something.

I promise it will eventually pass!

Ugh, I had terrible morning sickness with both pregnancies - all day, kept me up all night because I wanted to throw up, couldn't keep anything down, and lasted until nearly 20 weeks both times.

My solution the first time around was Vegemite. Spread about two inches thick on toast every morning, washed down with milk. It was all I could stomach. And since I couldn't bear handling raw meat or cooking smells while sick, dinner usually involved a choice of McDonald's, KFC or pizza. I wouldn't recommend it though... didn't seem to do DD any harm but obviously it's not ideal. I just couldn't bear being around most food and DH is only capable of toast and fried eggs, so I couldn't depend on him to do anything but get to the drive-thru and back

This time around, I'm better with the home-cooked food (Yaaay, I can chop up raw chicken! I rule!), but mornings are still hard. Strong (as in, thick as mud) tea with plenty of sugar to start with, then whatever I see in the fridge or pantry that doesn't make me gag on sight (it varies from day to day).
The dry crackers on the night table thing never, ever worked, and even plain water kept coming back up on me.
I think sugar is my secret to overcoming morning sickness, but obviously what works for one...

There are some good tips so far so hopefully they can help you more than I can!! Congrats, and best of luck. Hope you feel better soon

    Hi firstbub-

first of all- I totally empathise with you. Morning sickness SUCKS!!! I am so over it right now- lol...... ahhh, pity us world!

I do find that ginger and lemon tea helps, as does smelling fresh mint leaves.
I can't stomach meat at the moment- and I figure that is for a good reason.
I'm eating lots of fresh salads and fruit - I find that eating anything 'refreshing' helps somewhat.
Some people find significant relief with homeopathic remedies and acupuncture (make sure you tell the acupuncturist that you are pregnant though).

The most important factor in reducing/preventing nausea is purification of your liver prior to pregnancy. When you fall pregnant- your body tries to eliminate as many toxins as it can in order to protect the unborn child. This combined with raising hormone levels, can make you feel dreadful! Unfortunately liver-tonic herbs are not suitable to take during pregnancy - but if its any consolation, doing a liver detox program prior to your next pregnancy will significantly reduce the nausea for you.

DH and I did a killer detox in the UK before conceiving DS #1- we felt nauseous and headachey throughout the detox but by the end of it we felt fantastic and very 'light'. Hence when we conceived, most of the c**p in my body was eliminated and I suffered very minimal nausea. This time around I was unable to detox before conception as I was still breastfeeding. Now I am suffering BIG time!!!!

As tempting as it is- KFC etc will only prolong the nausea in the long run as it is highly processed and contains additives like 621 (MSG) which will only give your liver more work to do. Try to eat simple, plain, fresh foods as much as possible. Hopefully it will pass for us all soon!
