    Hi guys,

I get really bad headaches too... have been told is migraines... I am usually bad around my period so I am sure is hormonal. Mine go on for days I had one from Thursday night until Monday morning... I work in front of the computer and that seems to set it off... when I get them like yesterday I can't even move if I am lying down or sitting in a quite room I am fine as soon as I get up and stat walking around it sets them off... I get really pale feel hopeless… Panadol doesn't do much... I got prescribed Inderal 20mg in the morning and 20 at night by my GP 2 weeks ago in consultation over the phone with a specialist I am seeing tomorrow but I am a bit worried about this medication the GP told my it was safe but I Google it and it says it can cause foetal abnormalities, apparently it lowers your blood pressure (which mine was fine last time) anyways I took it on Friday and it didn't do much so I didn't take it again cause I got worried. Has anyone taken this medication? and does anyone now of any safe natural methods? like lavender? or migraine stick?

sorry mel, I haven't taken any medication except panadol (which was useless) so i cann't help you with that. maybe you should get a second opinion if you are concerned - or even just ask your pharmacist.

I got told that my headaches were probably viral, as the flu is going around canberra and my DH and DD had it, and I got it later; but that if the headache should come back i should go to the hospital and get my urine checked for protien, even if my blood pressure is low (i have to be careful as my blood pressure gets really low during pregnancy).

Sorry to hear about your headaches Misty. I hope they're starting to go and that it's just this awful bug that's going around.

Keep your OB or midwife up to date with how you're coping. It may be linked to something else.

I hope Jelly gives you a little bit of a break - can someone care for her for an hour or two so you can get some sleep?

    *hugs*

Thanks Misty. I went to see the specialist and he was very good. I hope the headaches go away soon. it is a common side effect and Inderal is a safe preventive. so if the headaches don't go away after week 20 I might try it. you take it twice a day for 3 weeks and then they should go away. He also said in some women oranges & chocolate can cause migranies. I have really been craving oranges (they are so juicy) and eating like 2 or 3 a day so I am going to give them a break for a few weeks to see if they go away. xx Mel

Yes, panadol, even panadeine is safe in pregnancy.

But as Rolymogs said, you should just double check your BP etc. I went through bad migraines around the 14 week mark which lasted for around 10 weeks, but they have cleared up, and i was taking panadeine and other pain killers every day (under the supervision of my obs)

The only one you should avoid is nurofen, which is not paracetamol based.

Yep panadol is fine, I used to take it sometimes I would get horrible hormone headaches - just dull aches that would last for a couple of days. No fun

yup panadol is fine, Herron specifically states that it's ok for pregnant women. I've taken them as pg has been giving me headaches as well, and they've lasted a few days. Once I've taken them it goes away. But yes, as the girls said, if you are worried check with your GP that your BP is ok.

    Default pain relief

I can't remember but can you have panadene or panadene forte while pregnant? What about Asprin?

I was prescribed with Panadeine Forte when I was 36 weeks pg. I would double check with your Dr though just because you are only early days.

No for asprin, only paracetamol. So check the label of the painkillers. But try to "cope" as long as possible. Rather take a nap (if possible) or do some meditation (if that is your thing)

i've just been through the whole drama of working out painkillers due to ttc and the whole 'maybe i'm pg' thing - i dislocated my arm and the only option was panadol - panadeine if absolutely necessary - but preferably not. i'm glad my doc was so thorough in checking everything out as to what i could and couldn't take - but sheesh - a dislocated wrist and panadol as my only option - not much help really!
