As Kelly mentioned the "follow through journey' I thought Id shed some light on my experience so far.. I enquired about student midwives and Kelly sent my details to a few. A few responded and they all sounded lovely, but I liked the info on the Follow Through program so I met with the student midwife who emailed me. Our first meeting was fabulous and we got along well, I felt really comfortable with her, and knowing she has had three of her own children made me even more comfy. She has since come with me to scans etc and we are catching up tomorrow for coffee, to sign the official paperwork with her senior (who is a midwife at Royal Melb). She is always there if I need some questions answered, no matter how big or small they might be. DH has met her and he really likes her too! So while I havent been through the birth experience yet, its been wonderful to have someone other than my OB to bounce things off. Although she is not allowed to provide medical care during the birth, I am confident that she will be a super support person and really be of use to both myself and dh.

Maybe ask to meet with the student before you decide??
