what baby things do i really need

ok, i'm wondering, do i really need a baby bath.? i think the conveinience of bathing bub anywhere would be a benefit, but they look quiet tiny and i imagine they would outgrow it quickly, what does everyone use/used for their babys bath time. i saw a little baby cradle that sits in your bath and supports the bub, would this be a better option.

also i have a few 000 sized clothing but was wondering how many size 0000 clothing i need. i have 2 jumpsuits that are 0000, do i need any more. it just says 4 kg's on the tag but i don't know how much wear they get out of them and if they will fit.

there are so many nice things out there for newborns but i don't have a really good idea what i definately need or can go without...what are some must have baby products that you just couldn't have gone without....?

    thanks

I bought a cheap 2nd hand bath and stand on ebay and hardly used it as a pain to fill amd empty.

put him in big bath with ine of us or showerm or just small amount of water in big bath and lie down.

0000 dont buy much unless you are thinking very small baby! 000 will be in use early on.

so much u can buy for babies and lots r rip offs!!!

I loved the swaddle me wraps and from them went to grobags and have not used 90 % of blankets we have!!!

Love the play gym, and a swing or bouncer is a god send!!! we have both love them.

most other things can wait till later (apart from pram, car seat, cot etc)

    good luck

I'm the opposite - we used our baby bath until DD was 2! It was on a stand and had a pipe to drain the water out so we could either recycle it onto the garden or use it to rinse the nappy bucket. It was easy to move around and the pipe made it very easy to empty. We also had a hose ont he tap so it was easy to fill.

DD was quite small so she was in 0000 for 8-10 weeks, however we had been told she would be average to big so hadn't bought much in 0000 at all. We got given loads of stuff and also it was easy to grab some extras once she was born so I wouldn't stress too much about not having enough prior to the birth, unless you really live in an extremely remote area.

All of mine have been over 8lb and have still worn 0000 for a few weeks at least.
I never used a baby bath much, just used one of those ramp like things which you lay baby on in the bath or they had a shower with DH or I.
All mine have loved the playgym thing they lay under.

With my twins I used a baby bath on the bench for a while, but then they went into the little seats things in the bath.

I also had loads of 0000 and 00000 clothes but being twins my two weighed 6lb4 & 6lb8. I guess it depends on how big your baby will be. I think if you have a couple of 0000 that will do and if you have a small baby perhaps your partner or a family member could go to the shops and buy you more if need be.

As the other ladies have said a play gym. At 7 months my twins still use their play gym thing only now they are always on their tummy, so play with the bits attached to the mat. We have got great use out of this.

We also had swings for the twins that we found came in really handy.

And also some wraps. We swaddled our babies until they started to roll and found they slept so much better swaddled.

    Hope that helps.

We didn't use our baby bath for long, DP or I ended up just having a bath with bub. However, we have used the baby bath heaps whilst camping. Great for washing toddlers and doing the dishes!!

When DS was little I couldn't have lived without his bouncer, it was a god send to be able to put him in that while I went and put his nappy in the bin or whatever...
I found the baby bath a bit of a pain, in the early days (he was a winter baby) we only bathed him every 2/3 days, never used any soap, occasionally put some grape seed oil for his dry skin. He grew out of the baby bath and we now currently bath him in a big bucket cause of water use.

Things I was able to live without, I was lucky and given heaps of clothes, really nice outfits like shirts and pants etc... but they were a major pain for me to put on a little baby so I mainly dressed him in those all in one bon suit type things they were great. I would pick out the nice outfit if we were going somewhere special.

Beau, I bought so many baby things I never used. I bought a baby bath from BigW, a white one, used it heaps. I did use a bath support that sat in the bath for DD, she could lay on it, you can get them from Babies Galore, they have terry towelling that goes over a wire frame. And I could remove the cloth and wash it when needed. As for 0000 clothes, I only had that size as gifts but honestly never used them. DD was 8lb13oz when born so went straight into 000 clothing. She wasn't even in it for too long anyway and moved to 00 quickly. I wouldn't buy too much clothing actually, they grow out of it so quickly!

    Good luck with everything!

I chucked my baby bath out...and there is no point in buying another i dont think, so i will just borrow from a girlfriend i think- we used the terry towling thingy for all the girls, but as for the bath.....after 6 weeks we just put them in the big bath with the terry towling thing.

I made the massive mistake of buying, buying, buying clothes when i found out i was pregnant with baby #2.....ive still got them with some of them tags still on !!! For me, my newborns live in bonds suits, maybe a cutsey outfit here or there for when we go visiting, but really a stack of all in ones is all you need....
I only buy a few 0000 - they grow sooo quickly in the first few weeks. I personally stick to 000.
I bought one of those breastfeeding cushions - in the shape of a U....i would pop under my lap when b/f baby. It doesnt matter if you dont end up b/f - coz its great for just lying them on it when they have a bit of wake time, and when its sitting up time (5-7 months) its a great back support....

I had a baby bath for DD1, Used the big bath with DD2 and DD3 will have her bath in the laundry trough while I have the dryer running, so it is warmer. I have average to small babies so I have bought a bit of 0000, so that if we have pooplosions she has something to wear, and if she does big spews she can easily be changed.

Buy lots of bibs. They are easier than changing an entire outfit if it is only a little spillage.

Had a baby bath for both DD & DS, but didn't use it no where near as long for DS, he much preferred to be in the big bath so he could stretch out properly & also liked to interact with his big sister..
I had a bouncer for both of them & it was a total godsend, I got more then my moneys worth out of their bouncers, that's for sure
I ended up with such a overload of stuff for DD, that just recently when I pulled it all out, there is still price tags on quite abit, whereas with DS, I never ever brought unncessary things, cause I learnt first time round what I'd need & not need.. Though I think with your first, you just buy everything cause your so excited!

Oh yes & your can NEVER have too many bibs/sick rags
With DS I used cloth nappies as his sick rags, whereas DD was in cloths, so I used handtowels for her sicks..

Your sizes are different thatn we have here but for the first few weeks DS lived in newborn sleepers. I never even tried to put cute outfits on him (way to hard) I just got a few cute sleepers. He grew fast but he also spit up a lot and had a lot of diaper leaks so we needed quite a few so we didn;t have to do laundry every day.

Things we could not have lived without in the early days:
    - Burp rags - DS was great at spitting up and even though I had 20 of them it never felt like I had enough
    - Bouncy Chair - this was a godsend
    - Baby swing - when DS wwas 2month the swing allowed me to have showers or get dinner cooked
    - Car seat cover - it was winter when DS was born and the car seat cover allowed me to dress him him his sleepers but ensure he was always warm and covered

We had a baby tub but we only used it for about 6 weeks, then we just laid him down in the big tub with a small amount of water. When DS learned to stand we started using the tub again as it made it harder to stand, but after a few weeks he could climb out of that as well so we got a bath ring seat.

I used my baby bath til 6 months. Sure beat having to lean over a bath. If you have any back or shoulder problems you def need a baby bath.

My bub was short at birth so we used the 0000 for ages. Just depends on what size bub pops out I guess.

    Howdy

I wasted excessive amounts of $$$ on a change table, thinking it was a neccessity Don't bother with one!

I have to say a good sling (eg a Peanut Shell) that you can wear in different styles was the best money I spent. And a pram that is reversible and converts to a stroller will save you heaps in the long run.

My bubs was in 0000 for ages- about 8 weeks I think. I always recommend Bonds for baby clothes- they are comfy and wear well no matter how many times they are washed- but their sizing is smaller than other brands.
