Parenting after LT TTC #8

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd join you all now that my bub is almost 2 weeks old and finally has a name!

My journey to concieve her was a bit different as I am single. I spent 2 years looking for a private sperm donor who I trusted and felt had good genes to pass on. Then I did one year of DIY AI with an interstate donor - who has proved to be a truly great guy and even after I had to stop trying with him, he has remained interested and supportive. Anyway I then did 1 year of IVF with anon donor sperm (3 full cycles and 1 frozen transfer - no left over embies). Finally concieved on my last full cycle.

I had 2 major bleeds at 7.5 weeks and was told I had lost the baby or babies (I'd had 2 embryos transfered and had been due for my first scan to see how many had attached when I had the bleeds). Luckily bub hung in there and when I had a scan the next day it was amazing to find there was a healthy heartbeat.

Anyway I gave birth to her on the 30th August. 2 and a half hour labour and the last bit was really fast (went from 4cm dilated to the baby being out within 10minutes). She was born in the bathroom off the labour room when I was briefly in there alone, so I actually caught her myself as she literally fell out! The midwife ran in the door in time to see me catch her! She was only 6 pound 13.

I found it really hard to name her as I made up my 14 year old daughter's name and thus I wanted to make up this baby's name but nothing sounded quite right. It was agonising... I choose her middle name before she was born. It is Kohana (pronounced Ko-ha-nah) and is Japanese for little flower. I had wanted something unusual which started with a K and meant something which could be her special symbol. My 14yr old's middle name is Kimana which is native american for butterfly. It's also interesting that the first country I ever travelled to overseas was America and then the first country that my 14yr old and I travelled to together was Japan so both my children's middle names also relate to my travels.

Anyway I didn't want her first name to end in an a sound and as our surname ends in an e sound I couldn't have that either... so this just added to the stress I felt.

One of my friends commented on how my 14yr old's name is really pretty and I would never be able to make up another name as pretty... and this made me even more depressed. My 14yr old is called Ashalyn (pronounced Ay-shar-len)

Well it was a big relief last night when I finally settled on a name that my 14yr old approves of.

My baby girl is called Danicia (pronounced Da-nee-sha)

And now she is starting to stir so I better go... look forward to getting to know you all and reconnecting with some I recognise from the pregnancy forum.
