20 Weeks & still can't feel bubs moving...

    Hey all,
I will be 20 weeks tomorrow & don't think I have felt my baby boy move yet!
I had a morphology scan last Monday and all looked good, he was moving around all over the place, but all the books, magazines & even friends say that by 20 weeks you should be able to feel your baby moving.
The tech said that my placenta was "kinda on the side" but that shouldn't prevent me from feeling him move.

I really want to connect with him & have that regular reassurance that all is okay.

Any suggestions on how I may maximise my chances of feeling him, like position to sit/lie in, things to eat etc?

I think DD1 was 21 weeks before I really felt her move but I had an anterior placenta and she was fine. It is worrying though! I first felt her move when we were at the movies, nice and relaxed and there was some really loud noises - I think it made her jump so maybe try doing that?

It was about 22 weeks before i felt movements, and it was driving me crazy! There is a poll somewhere and some people didn't feel movements til around 24 weeks and everything was ok.

I loved every movement i did get, and i think it was cos i had to wait so long. I don't know anything that helped, one day it just happened.

hope it's not too long for you

    congrats on your scan results

Oh, the anticipation must be driving you crazy!!! I can empathise, I didn't feel bubs move until after 20 weeks either. For me, at first it kinda felt like a muscle twinge- you know, a bit like a flutter in the muscle? It was very soft and if I was busy, I would never feel it. I thought I'd feel it in front, but it was around the side! I first felt DS when I was at a concert- I think he liked (or hated) the music! Also, as time went on and I thought maybe it had been a while since I'd felt him, I'd have a cold drink, or something to eat and it'd wake him up and he'd let me know he was ok. Hope you feel bubs soon!

i wouldn't stress too much, with baby #3 for me, i didnt feel baby moving properly and regularly until i was about 23 weeks. and that was baby #3!! you'd think i would have felt him earlier. it depends on where your placenta is, sometimes that can mask baby's movements until they get a bit bigger and stronger.

all the best for your scan!

    Hey hungry,

I totally understand I first felt my baby move at 17 weeks but even to this day it isn't a regular thing (Today she is very quiet). I read that some babies are naturally more active hence personality etc then others cos they could be chilled out bubs.

If your scan went good then your bub maybe a chilled out lil fella or you may have different times when he moves eg: When your a sleep he is podding around in there Either way if I do get worried I either do light exercise or drink a cuppa tea which in most cases does the trick When I lay down I first lay on my side then roll onto my back for a minute and usually that helps too.

Congrates on the lil boy too

    Hey ladies,
Thanks very much for your replies.
I tried really hard over the w/e to be conscious of any movements, maybe I felt something, but maybe it was just gas!
How do you ever really know??

I am going to try and relax about it, after hearing from you all it would seem that I am not the exception, maybe my little dude is a chilled out fella!
    Thanks again,
    HH

I was the same with DD when I was waiting for her to move - because I had no idea what to expect I actually didn't even know it was already happening until her Dad had his hand lying on my tummy and felt it from this outside lol

I felt so silly because I thought it was only gas and that I wasn't feeling her yet - and then once I knew what it was I realised it had been happening for days!!

I hope it happens soon - I am sure it will

I think this is pretty normal really. I was the same, I had no idea what I was looking for to feel those early movements & I didnt realise I was feeling bub move till almost 23-25weeks. I can honestly say now looking back Im sure I was feeling bub move earlier than the 20 weeks I just didnt know it.

Lol everyone kept telling me it felt like butterflies in your belly, but honestly to me it felt like an upset stomach, it'd roll a bit & drop & yes feel a little gassy......but no gas .

Don't stress, as long as the checkups are showing all is well with bub. I guarantee in no time you'll be wishing you weren't feeling bub move coz it can be downright odd to suddenly feel a foot jab out the side of your stomach & slightly painful by the end.

Don't worry about it, my OB says it is common not to feel much with first pregnancies right up to 22 weeks, I'm sure you will get a kick in the ribs sooner or later. (I was worried about it too)

My bubs is moving so I can feel now only just started this week, and it feels to me like I'm being tapped from the inside. LOL until I knew what it was I only could feel it if I sat still not doing too much.

Now all bubs ever does is move LOL don't worry if all your scans are ok, some people I know didn't feel anything until 3rd trimester, and their bubs were totally fine.

Also, sometimes I wish bubs wouldn't play football with my bladder urk

    Everyone is different
