Anyone been told one gender at 20 week US only to have the opposite?
Just wondering if anyone has had the gender prediction at their 20 week ultrasound turn out wrong?
My OB did a scan when I was 18 weeks and said he was pretty sure we were having a girl.
All good, then we went for our 20 week US. The sonographer said 'looks like a scrotum to me'....
Now I have heard that it is more common for a boy to be mistaken as a girl, than it is for a girl to be mistaken as a boy... So I'm thinking that the 'boy' prediction at the 20 week scan is probably most accurate. But still curious to know if anyone was told they were having a boy, only to end up having a girl?
Only one I know of was a friend of mine - her Mum was told boy and she had a daughter instead! This was late 80's so technology wasn't as advanced of course.
I've had a 4D scan both times just to double check
A friend here also - was told she was having a girl and it turned out to be a boy
Funnily enough, she couldn't bring herself to even look at girls clothing and kept going over to the boys section!
I don't know of anyone told they were having a boy, but had a girl instead. I do know a couple of people who were told girl, but had boys. It must be so frustrating for you to not know for sure either way! (Well, I know I would be frustrated anyway ).
My neighbour was told she was having a boy and it ended up being a girl - supposedly she really struggled for a long time to come to terms with it because she had stocked the wardrobe and decorated the nursery. Her daughter is 16 now so it was a while ago
I would think the sonographer is more likely to have the better equipment and be more accurate, as well as your pg being further along.
FWIW we were told girl both times. In fact, for this little belly bub, we were given an indication at our 12 week scan that it looked to be developing like a girl, as they were doing an early determination of gender study. Looks pretty much like they were right - but we'll confirm 100% in about five weeks! I think the technology has improved out of sight in recent years.
friend was told she was having a girl, ended up being a boy. She has boxes and boxes full of pink that she hasnt been able to use yet!
we were told by the guy at our 3d/4d scan that he was 1000% sure of what we are having. Even though Im sure he is right, I wont hold him to it until sprout is born!
Apparently with the girl bits there are 3 distinct lines on the scan that indicate the labia/vagina that, once picked, it's pretty certain it's a girl. I heard that the cord can be mistaken for boy bits. My friend was told she was having a boy and then next scan it was a girl!
But I guess a technician is human too and we all have our off days!
Hhhmmm.... thanks for sharing everyone. I've been googling to try and find ultrasound pics to compare ours to. We do have what looks like a penis, but it's crooked and does look different to the ones I see online. There is also what could be interpreted as 3 lines, but again, not as clear as the pics I've seen online... Urgh this is doing my head in!
I didn't really want to find out, but DH was really keen to this time round so I figured we would. Over the last couple of weeks I've gotten quite used to the idea of having a little girl and excited at the prospect of buying all the cute girlie outfits. I have to say I was quite thrown when the sonographer said boy... It doesn't quite 'feel' right if that makes sense I'm happy and feel blessed to have either, but I feel like all these mixed predictions have left me spinning and I'm not sure what to think. I wish it was still a surprise - which I guess in a lot of ways it is, just not the same surprise IYKWIM?
When they say "boy" you aren't looking for a penis - it's testicles that they're seeing, so what you think may be a penis could, in fact, be an umbillical cord. I was told and shown at 13.5 weeks this baby's testicles (clear as day, exact same as the shot from 18 weeks with DS1) and she also showed me the umbillical cord in comparison.
Post a pic of your u/s so we can have a sticky beak!
Yep! We were told we were having a girl at our 19 week scan, and ended up having a little boy! Our sonographer was so sure! Lol. To b fair the midwife said it had only happened to her once before!
i cant imagine how its messing with your head but i'd prob be trying to book in one of those 4d scans to check again and try and get a better confirmation.
there seems like there are quiet a few stories.
at our 18wk scan the sonographer looked at the scrotum first, then found the penis. well i didnt get a pic of it and to me it wasnt as clear as day as my previous 2 boys but even though the penis was not a definate the scrotum pretty muh was.
my ob also confirmed boy on thurs but i'll prob still go and get another scan just to triple check for myself lol!
