Noni, this happened last time too! I remember you feeling guilty for overindulging in take aways lol.

MD's healthy alternative idea is good, I find a hot chocolate works wonders for taking the edge off a sugar craving. Eat the Doritos though, they are the thing I miss most about Australia lol

I craved alcohol with 2 of my pregnancies and I wasn't a huge drinker! I didn't drink it of course but I just wanted it so badly.

If you're craving junk buy the fun sized packs of everything. They will satisfy the cravings, it's not too bad to eat the wrong thing every now and hten as long as its a small portion.

EVERYONE, preggers or not, are allowed hot chips, with salt, AND hosed down in vinegar (for me anyhow) just once in a while

Can't help with your cravings except to say, hang in there and as others have said, try alternatives.

As for unusual cravings, a friend of mine craved cement throughout most of her pregnancy. Yep, CEMENT! We couldn't find an alternative so she ended up sucking on a small block of cement! Plus we thought her body might be craving calcium? Only thing we could think of that might be "in" cement that her body would need. So she upped her calcium intake as well. She said it wasn't exactly what she wanted (she wanted to EAT the cement) but it did the trick. It was SO weird and she was so embarrassed by the whole thing.

LOL at Leasha and the soap not tasting as good as it smells. I can imagine so...

LOL yep a month or two ago i got hot chips drowned in vinegar on my lunch break, they were so soaked that the bottom fell out of the chip box as i walked back to work and about 10 seagulls swooped in and ate them all
funniest bit is i went back to the shop and told them 'i dunno why, the box just collapsed' and got a replacement...the paper box this time wrapped in a plastic bag ....pmsl

these are the days i LOVE living in the sticks - "convenience" food really isn't convenient so i cave and eat a bit healthier at home (not perfect, but better than i'd do if i was out!

have you thought about trying to find alternatives you can make at home that fix the craving for junk without being AS bad? i have potato wedges in the freezer all the time - the oven fry ones - LOVE them - they meet the "chip" craving, but aren't soaked in oil...

ummm, make sure you have stuff in the house to substitute for other junky cravings - i know it's cheaper to buy in bulk when getting things like Doritos (which i've gone off since being pg!), but maybe buy smaller packets. i'm someone who dreads opening a packet cos i know i'll eat it all, so i figure spending a little more on getting smaller packets means i don't eat it all at once.

find another drink that you can substitute for V (though i know most things can't replace V!) - it's hard, but better to be drinking cordial or iced tea than something heavily loaded with caffeine

i can't go the "fully healthy" option of salads and stuff cos they do nothing for me. i can't have a salad without tomato and tomato gives me heartburn and makes reflux/morning sickness worse - so i have just changed things to mean i'm meeting a lor of my needs without being super unhealthy. i DO cave and have KFC if i go shopping though - just the chippies - i neeeeeeeeeeeeeeed them!

    Craving bad things

Aw hun I feel for you and know where you are coming from.

I craved junk with my first pregnancy, my son.

This pregnancy (currently at 20 weeks), I have been craving COFFEE, COKE & RED WINE.

Needless to say I have not succumbed to the red wine.

I have one cup of coffee in the morning and that is it. Its hard though!!

Must admit I have crumbled and had a coffee frappe or coke during the day at one point or another also.

Just have to balance healthy foods with your occasional slip ups and dont feel too guilty! We are only human and being pregnant isnt an illness.

i read a story about a woman who ate SPONGES!! like the coloured dish cloth ones...then she went to natural sea sponges she thought it'd be healthier!!!!she used to treat herself to one bite a day!!!! her mouth used to water at the sight of them...

i laughed my head off when i read that.

yes i have a theory our bodies need extra fat stores for b/f thats why so many pg women crave junk esp hot chips!

    Wink

    GUILTY as charged....

    I... crave... hotdogs.

    Not just 1, or 2, or 3...

I crave like four hotdogs a day. It is so bad because I grew up with a mother who had a PHD in nutrition and I know how bad hotdogs are. But man, just the thought or smell of one and I go insane.

This might explain why I have gained 15 pounds so far... lol
