Question Freaked and Confused over feeling bub move!

This might sound so stupid... But i feel so freaked out and confused over my bubs movements!

This is my first baby and i have been feeling movements for a few weeks now... Baby judding out and distorting my tummy, tummy somersaults and butterflies! I found comfort in these movements - but thought it strange that others in my BB group weren't feeling movement around the same time and they are on their subsequent pregnancies.

Since last monday, i have been feeling little *bumps* and *thumps* if that makes sense? Initially i was feeling them down low, and with some of them could 'just' feel a little *bump bump*. These little *bumps* and *thumps* seem to have gotten stronger everyday! Tonight while laying on the sofa watching tele i was feeling them but they we're really strong.. i mean they were overwhelming! So i watched my tummy and i could actually see the *bump bump* in my tummy.. it happened for ages, and i even layed with my hand on my tummy for awhile just feeling it all.. I am really just freaked out (how strong they were) and confused because i honestly didn't think this was all suppose to happen till much later than 20 weeks, especially being my first pregnancy!

I am a small person, but my baby would be the same size as everyone elses in my BB group.. Why can i feel these things so early? I'm so confused and so freaked out!

Just on the side - someone in my BB group did say this week that she had begun feeling movements and described it as bubbles in her belly.. I can't say anything i have felt, felt anything like that!

I feel embarrassed, people must be reading this thinking 'what a freak!'... I know i am getting upset over nothing, it's just so much to take in all at once! Leaky boobs, baby moving and vommiting... I honestly didn't expect most of the stuff happening to me to happen till later and thought the vommiting would be long gone. Well Daniel comes home today (works away) so maybe he'll get a chance to have a feel.

Lindsay - Thank you.. I told my Ob and was expecting the 'it's far too early to be feeling anything yet', but instead got the 'o wow how exciting'... Does it make me a bad person for not being greatful? I think myabe i am just over hormonal and letting myself get upset over nothing.

I wouldn't be freaked out at all, some of the girls in my PAML thread are feeling movement and are able to see it from the outside and they are at about the 18 week mark too. With my DD I was getting quite strong movement by this stage and she was my first baby. This time I have an anterior placenta so movements are much softer and few and far between.

Because you're a smaller person your baby doesn't have as much room to float around in there and you will probably 'feel' your prg earlier in general - if that makes sense??

Thanks Willow - I don't know why i keep crying for.. i feel like an idiot!

I suppose i also expected to have a baby bump earlier because i am so small, but i am the only one in my group that doesn't have one! I can't even say i have reached that stage where my tummy looks chubby iykwim? I took a pic the other day, it is a little bit rounder than pre pregnancy, but other than that it just looks normal! The only time i feel 'pg' is when i'm laying down and the baby pushes out with her whole body and distorts my tummy. I am embarrassed to tell people i am pregnant because i have nothing to show for it! I feel like i am eating constantly trying to put on weight to no prevail, i started at 53-54kgs pre-pg and am now just under 45kgs (maybe muscle loss?)... I had an Ob appointment a couple of days ago and said my baby seemed 'big'? I also have a second gestational sac with a twin that didn't fully develop - i thought i'd at least have some sort of tummy to show for it! So i can't see a baby bump but i can feel such strong vivid movements?

    Hi Catherine

This is my first baby and I am (was) a small person. My baby is really active and has been since about 16w too. He kicks and squirms and makes me pull faces so I know exactly what you mean! Especially when he is kicking my cervix! I only started to show at around this time too, so dont worry, soon there will be no hiding it!

I was 50kg when I fell pregnant and I put on 1 kg in the 1st trimester. I am now 61 kg so I have put on 10 kgs in the second! I'm really enjoying my new shape and size though, and I wouldnt want to weigh any less at this time (The baby weighs 1kg so far) as I am being induced at 37 weeks.

Im 26 weeks now and bubs is as active as ever. You will get used to it, its like a constent "hello im in here!" LOL! Maybe our bubs will become black belts in karate one day!

    Hi Catherine

I wouldnt worry too much, I began to feel definate movement at around 18 weeks. Possibly you are slightly further along than you thought..at my 19 wk ultrasound i was brought forward two weeks to 21 wks pregnant, you may be in the same boat??

I have been feeling movements since 14 weeks (very small) and strong ones the last few weeks. I am 20 weeks today and on Friday I felt 4 big kicks from the outside for the first time.

Gemma - This is a sunsequent pregnancy for you.. therefore you are expected to feel baby earlier? I can understand YOU feeling those strong kicks, and feeling kicks on the outside at around 20 weeks.. but i am already feeling kicks or thumps from the outside. I know they will progress to be much stronger.. it's just overwhelming to be feeling these 'alien' like feelings and not even be showing!

Hayley - I don't think i would be any further along... we had an 8 week and a 13 week scan and both were pretty spot on, 13 weeks scan i was a day ahead i think. But my Ob did say she was big... I have to be tested for GD this week because i am high risk as there is allot of diabetes type 2 in my family.

August M M - Thank you for your support.. I am feeling a little better this afternoon as Danny is home and gives me so much comfort - he told me we are just so lucky that we can already feel her. His been following me around in hope he can feel some more thumps. So i am happy for him.

Catherine - I would just say enjoy it, everyone is different and if your scans have been good and your Dr is positive then you prob just have an active baby. As much as I love these forums I think we can all work ourselves up with all the info that is out there (books, dvds, websites, forums etc) when everyone is different and we will experience some things the same and some different. Discuss any concerns at your next appt, but pls if they say it is all on track believe them and enjoy - we only get this time a few times in life and I dont believe there is a 'normal' pregnancy.

My bub is always way more active if I have anything sugary. Do you eat a lot of chocolate?

Try to think of it as reassurring. At least you know bub's OK in there :-)

    early movements

I had movements since week 17 and now at 20 weeks I can get baby to move and kick whenever I lie down.

I'm small too and have had lots of comments about my lack of bump - including getting a nickname of "fattie" from a few work male and female work colleagues who obviously think that's ok to say. Luckily I've got at thick skin.

I've gone from 50kgs pre-pregnancy to 54 kilograms at 20 weeks. I'm assuming this is ok - I wasn't weighed at any of my antenatal appointments so assume it is!

I've been told that if you are small you will feel the baby earlier - a lot of people said I was wrong at 17 weeks and that it was wishful thinking - but I knew what I felt and could see. It does feel strange at first, but now I look forward to what I see as the baby's only way of saying "hello" to us at the moment. ;-)

    Aww... Thanks girls!

I do eat allot of sugary foods lol.. And i more so feel bubs movements when i am laying down or sitting back and relaxing! Feeling a bit better now, this morning she was kicking up a storm.. and we just sat there for ages and Danny loved feeling the thumps.. i could see his face light up and he was so proud! It made me feel so good to see him so thrilled about feeling our bub... Again thanks for the support!
