I'm 17.5wks and for the last few days have been getting pain in the lower abdomen and pubic area? The lower abdomen pain is dull and constant like period pain. There is a "sharper" pain in the groin (vaginal area) which is worse when I walk. A bit like my bones are pushing into my buttocks??? Sitting down seems to relieve it. I went for a long walk a couple of days ago then did a lot of cleaning at home yesterday. Could this have contributed? Has anyone else experienced this?
There is so many weird and wonderful (well, not so much wonderful) pains that come and go during pregnancy. I think I know the pain you're talking about (pain in your hips/bum bones) and believe it is all normal but overdoing it can make it worse. I believe the pelvic bones move and seperate during pregnancy to make way for the baby to come out easier so I think this is what it could be. I dont think I started getting it until about 25 weeks but every pregnancy is different.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and hope the pain doesnt get any worse for you. Warm baths should ease some of your discomfort.
If you feel the middle of your pevis, does it have a gap between the bones? How big is that gap? Mine is about 2 fingers width, which is rather wide for the Symphysis Pubis. It feels like I have been kicked and it is very bruised feeling. It is much worse when I have been doing a fair bit. If you have an obvious waddle, that can be a big indicator that something is not right. Look up SPD threads and Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction. If the descriptions sound like what you feel then GET a REFERRAL to a PHYSIO!! I had a Physio appointment today and they are getting me a bigger support belt, and have given me a sheet full of management techniques.
where am I supposed to be feeling? Sorry I haven't got a clue Have been reading up on SPD and feeling terrified. The pain is not so bad today, but I do get a waddle somedays when I walk a lot or am on my feet all day. I suppose I could tell my ob when I see him next.
I was thinking the same LSK, I'm only just showing and haven't put on much weight. I've weighed more before I was pregnant, so how does i hurt so much? What sort of support belt are you wearing? Have you spoken to your ob about it? Maybe see a physio like alioops has suggested.
Belle, I have been getting pelvic pain for a while now and it has become more painful the last couple of weeks. I first noticed it around 20wks and it's caused by the relaxin hormone loosening up all those tendons and your pelvis moving more than normal. I saw the physio for the first time today and she said it's worse when you have one loose side and one side that's more stiff which is what I have.
It's always worse when I've been busy and on my feet alot, but it hurts mostly getting in and out of bed, getting dressed, walking up stairs, going from sitting to standing. The physio taped me up to try and get me some relief, and said I have to try and change the way I get out of bed/car etc by keeping knees together, walk up stairs by taking one step at a time. It takes ages but it seems to make a difference. If this fails I will end up getting a belly belt for some extra support.
So, it seems that what you are experiencing is completely normal and well worth seeing a physio for a bit of extra help. I just called the physio dept at the hospital I am booked in to and it cost me $15.
