Damn not finishing DTD...lol. However, good on DH for being able to a) tell that it doesn't feel the same and b) for actually saying something to you!
There is a thread on how your cervix feels somewhere around here... can't think where, will come back with link if I find it...
However, from what I remember them saying in that thread and from what you are describing it sounds like your journey to having your bub is beginning... cervix shortens (hence being able to feel it so readily) and starts opening (the donut feeling)... I will see if I can find the thread - very interesting... otherwise... ALAN WHERE ARE YOU?? lol.
