Getting Bubs to Move - Hints, Tricks??

    Hi,

This is probably nothing, but I'm a becoming a bit worried because I haven't felt any movement for around 12 hours or so. Normally, I get movements during the night (while I'm lying awake after the obligatory loo trip), and when I'm just about to get up for the morning (seems to hear the alarm), and again after I've eaten breakfast, but today there's been nothing.

I've had a massive drink of cold water about 15 minutes ago, just to see if anything would happen, but so far nothing. And I've been doing a bit of poking and prodding, to see if I can get a response that way.

I've called my OB rooms, but waiting to hear back from him as he's in theatre this morning.

Does anyone have any other tricks that work for them??

try chewing some ice (murder on your teeth ) it is what the midwives used to make me do when i went for foetal monitoring with my first bub. Seemed to get her jumpong around.

i noticed that bubs would be much more quite on some days. If i am very busy, sometimes i might not notice the slight movements. While other days, i would have to be comatised not to notice them
Did you lay down after your cold drink? Maybe even try something with suger. I do find that a really sweet milo does wonders as well.
But, certainly, get checked out by your obs. If you cant get into see them, i know my sister just went straight into ER at a local public hospital, and they checked her straight away.

A midwife once recommended to me that honey gets the baby moving. You could try honey tea or a spoon or two of honey.

It is also normal for babies movement to slow down in the third trimester as there is less space for them to do their acrobatics in!

Also try sweet drinks, coffee or putting an ice brick on your tummy

If I lay on my back for a few minutes, my baby would give me a massive kick in the ribs.

    Hi Jan
I had a similar stress to you earlier in the week. I was going to ring the hospital but movements picked up and so I raised it with my obs yesterday. He indicated that depending on the babies's position, I might not feel the movement as what we feel is usually reverberations of movement in the uterus which affects other organs (eg stomach) ie if bubs is actively hitting the back of your uterus you are less likely to feel it because the movement is stifled by your internal organs.
If you are feeling really worried and can't get your ob ring your hospital, they will see you to monitor you and ring your ob if there is a problem which i am sure there isnt.
I am sure its all ok
    Take care

I will get up, walk around for a minute or 2, and then sit down with my legs raised in the recliner.....
guaranteed to gt the little one motivated!!!
I find that if DP or I poke or prod him, then I think he notices these and s intrigued or something and tends not to move.

I agree that if you get really worried, call the hospital and head in. Better to be safe than sorry!

Hope your little one starts bruising your internal organs again soon

Thanks everyone for your tips & support - I'm at work at the moment, so some of them I can't quite get to, but the good news is that I have finally had some wriggling around in there, so I'm a lot more relaxed than I was a couple of hours ago. So far I've been really healthy & lucky as far as being pg goes, so I guess this quiet time just played on my mind a bit much. I thought that maybe I was getting some negative karma my way, because on Tuesday I was telling my OB how relaxed I'm feeling about things. Ha - this will teach me!

I've put DP on notice to give said child a stern talking to tonight - it's not too early for lessons to be learnt regarding how to treat your mother kiddo!

    Smile Some things to try...

Play some music to your tummy, something with lots of drumming or a loud bass.
Get DP to talk to your tummy and blow raspberries on it!
Change positions when lying down, go from lying on one side to the other, and see if baby moves...

This is all I can think of besides the other suggestions for now...will come back if I think of more!

    Oh jan,

I am trying to think of what i have been doing that my bubs moves for me.

    1. Go for a swim in the pool
    2. drink freezing cold drinks/ice
    3. go for a walk
    4. have a bath
    5. Have sex - give it a go

I can't think of any more at the moment!

Think of it this way Bubba might be a really good sleeper and sleep for 12 hrs straight as soon as he/she is born, wouldn't that be bliss !

I am sure everything is A ok and he/she is resting for now until you want to go to sleep maybe? lol

I discovered this by accident ! I had a heat pack onto my belly coz I had some pain like period pain and when the heat pack got too hot for me I took it off and the baby went crazy!! Then it settled down, and I needed the heat pack back on again. Then again it got too hot and took it off and the baby went crazy again. So I just kept playing with it till the baby got bored of it.
Try that, maybe that will help. I've got a kick chart from my hospital and I notice that in the last 4 days I can't make it to 10 in 12 hours. Mainly it gets up to 7-8. I found after the 12 hours is up, I'm on the couch with my feet up and it starts dancing then.

hope this helps. If your worried go to the emergency dept of the local hosp and they'll look after you!

    Good luck

august moon - - my DH does that to - and bubs goes crazy..
Well, not so much anymore - space is abit of a issue, but, earlier on - it loved it.

I have days now when bubs is quiet all day, and as soon as DH gets home, and starts talking, bubs starts moving. I think its very cute.

Relax, put your feet up, or have a bath. The moment you want to relax they usually start jiggling around. Otherwise (like everyone else says) a nice cold drink
