Mel and Abs explained it very well, I have been on a LOW GI diet the whole pregnancy to avoid GD due to my high insulin levels I took metformin to fix this while TTC but wasnt allowed to take it during my pregnancy. I can still have a hot choc every day with sugar but am unable to eat potatoes, white bread, white rice other than basmati and other high GI foods due to the carbs. If you do have GD usually the first step they will get you to do it change your diet to Low GI.
