    Insomnia :(

I'm facing yet another night of no sleep until at least 5am by the looks of things and I was hoping someone could suggest some tricks to help sleep.
I'm really uncomfortable because my pelvic bones are hurting lots and I have to get up a lot to go to the bathroom but the biggest problem I think is switching off my brain. I keep thinking about the labour and everything else and I just can't relax. I can't sleep during the day and running on 2hours sleep is getting me no where.

    Any suggestions would be lovely!

I had the same thing throughout pregnancy
I downloaded an app for my phone that was guided relaxation and that usually helped me switch off so I could sleep - if you don't have a phone or iPod you can use a cd instead...
I also tried to have a snack, often I was hungry but didn't know it, so if I had been awake for a while I would try having a glass of milk and some toast.
Can you have a bath before bed? Very relaxing and also helps with pain too.
What are you thinking about? Stuff to do? Could you keep a to do list by your bed and write it down, that way you have acknowledged it and can address it in the morning, if that. makes sense
Last thing, try not to focus on the fact you are not sleeping, my day always started at 7 if I wasn't working cos of DD and there was little chance to nap in the day, so when I couldn't sleep I would worry about functioning the next day, that made it worse.

I hope some of these can help I do understand how frustrating it is.
    Sending you sleepy vibes

Sammiejane has given you some awesome tips to help you sleep, particularly the list one. I found placing pillows or a bit of support where body parts were feeling uncomfortable helped.

I found placing pillows or a bit of support where body parts were feeling uncomfortable helped.

What she said! I have pillows everywhere, little one for under my neck, bellybean for under belly, extra pillow behind me to stop me rolling on my back (that wakes me up) and a pillow between my knees and one between my ankles. I wake up with them everywhere, but the support does help. My pelvic bones/area hurts alot also, and DP has to roll me over in the middle of the night.

Sammiejane's advice about switching off was also really good!

Thank you so much for the helpful tips - I really appreciate it! Especially the switching off because that's my biggest problem.

I'm going to give them a try tonight and hopefully with some luck I can catch up on some zzzz! I've started a to do list today and I'm going to have a look at some relaxation apps for my iPhone so hopefully it goes better tonight and I'm not still awake in the morning when DH's alarm goes off.

warn shower, DH brush out my hair, warm drink, brush teeth, pillow under belly (one on each side, for when the obligatory roll came!), pillow between the knees, a CD on (classical or something with no words!) and then prayers (aiming to unload any concerns on God, so I can try to let them go) and then imagining different plesant situations, like taking bathing bub, or taking bub to the pool or the beach for the first time, or auditioning for Australian Idol, or going on a second honeymoon with DH or whatever ... planning it down to the last detail. I found if I picked the right scenario for my mood I would be out within 2 minutes.

    good luck!
