Has anyone been told and shown at their u/s a certain sex of their baby and have given birth to the opposite?

This is what I am stressing about - big time. I have been told a girl but I keep thinking that maybe they have got it wrong. I already have two boys so was pretty desperate to have a girl and am finding it hard to believe that i may have that. I keep having thoughts of giving birth and seeing a willy - or the ob or midwife yelling "its a boy." But when I start thinking this way I try to tell myself to stop being silly and that it is a girl! Friends of my parents had it happen where they were told it was a girl and were desperate to have a boy and then when she gave birth it was the boy they wanted so for them it worked out perfectly.

Im also in the same boat. I have a son and am pregnant with our second maybe last child?? and we were told by the sonographer at the 20 week scan that he thought it was a girl. He looked twice and said "i think its a girl" both times. I wouldnt mind if we had another boy but we did 'try' for a girl so we are hoping pink. Some days im certain the sonographer was right and others i also imagine the midwife saying its a boy. Friends of ours just had their bub and they were told a girl and had a boy!! 9 weeks and ill know for sure!

My SIL was told her third child was a girl and he popped out a boy! I guess they can be wrong sometimes!

I thikn it's rare they are wrong these days with this. I was sure this bubs was a girl and then at my 20 weeks scan she said "It's a Boy" I nearly fell of the bed! But then I started feeling like you ladies and was still sure they might have it wrong, but nope another scan at 35 weeks proved boy aagin, thank goodness!

I doubt they are wrong, but it really does go by on how good a sonographer the person is and how mcuh experience they have doing it.

OMG - this is stressing me out!!! I wish I could have another scan just to confirm. Before my scan even started the sonographer said that she can never be 100% sure if the baby is a boy or a girl and then we had her write down what she thought the sex was on a piece of paper and we looked at it later. The note said "I cant be 100% sure but I think it is a girl." So although she said she cant be 100% sure I am taking that as her covering her butt a little bit (as she said she couldnt be sure for a boy or girl prior to even starting the scan) and I am hoping she was right. In my mind I tell myself that she must have been pretty certain as she knew how desperate we are for a girl and if she had any doubts she wouldnt have said either way. Without sounding like I am going on (which I know I am) I am going to take it that she was right in saying the baby is a girl and just try and hold onto that thought.

I just want to stop thinking about it. I knew I shouldnt have read this thread LOL!!!

LMAO you go on girl, your entitled too!

I reckon your havinga girl anyways, just a feeling!

They say they can't be 100% sure because your right, they have to cover themselves. But I truly reckon its very rare to say girl and it coems out boy. Even though it does happen, its rare!

    Your carrying a little girl!

Now get away from this topic and think pink!

LOL Jem - you already know I am feeling 100% the same way.

Ok - Isabeau - I have found out with all three of my pregnancies - The first two I was told boys -and they were and are both beautiful boys so it was correct for me! I have now been told a girl for this one with the understanding that girls are harder to predict. My u/s lady will never tell you she's 100% sure - and yes, I think they need to cover their butts. I was a bit stressed over this (had prepared myself to hear boy so am finding it hard to allow myself to think pink and dont want to JIC!) Anyway, when my ob read the results 'appears to be female' I stressed even more, but he reassured me that that was something that was always written, looked at who did my u/s and said she was very experienced and he thinks if she wasnt quite sure, she would've just told me that she couldn't be sure - so that has put my mind at ease. Only time will tell though - but so far I have had two accurate results.

    Smile Always trust your instincts

    hi,
i gave birth in January this year, and right through my early pregnancy i felt strongly that i was having a boy... i wasn't going to find out the sex but i did, and i was right. So my advice is to trust your motherly instincts, they are more powerful than you think! The senogapher is rarely wrong and don't like to speculate unless they are 99.9% certain, but it does happen! Don't stress to much though you'll be in love either way!

I bought everyhting I need for a boy that is why I would be a bit concerned if he become a she! lol

BUT the last scan she pointed out his scrotum and"Um, yep, it was a boy alright!

I found out with this pregnancy that it was 99.9% a girl and the whole way through kept thinking they can be wrong and don't get your hopes up in case it turns out to be a boy.
Even when I gave birth and everyone said its a girl I still didn't believe them until I saw her for my own eyes and even now I still can't believe she is a girl.

Lol Michelle, I KNEW you'd be like that...believe it hun, Erin is a GIRL!!

Soul, I can't believe you're still hanging in there as well - waiting for Phoenix.

As for the original question...a guy my DH works with they were told they were having a girl...twice and turned out to be a boy. They are usually less certain with girls than boys when doing an ultrasound cos body parts can be slightly swollen etc. and appear to be something they're not.

I think it depends on how early they tell you. I was told at 13wks that DS was a boy and if the sonographer wasnt a specialist ob to i dont think i would have been confident until later scans. Im lucky that i get u/s every 3 weeks so i can keep checking lol. I was told at my last scan (25wks) that we are having a girl so i think the longer they have to develope the better iykwim.

At my 18 week scan the sonographer said he was 80% sure I was having a girl. All my friends, family (and just about anyone who decided to comment on my appearance) were convinced I was having a boy. I now have a 4 week old girl!

BTW - my Ob told me not to buy anything on 80% odds!

at 20 weeks, we were told we were having a boy. the sonographer even highlighted the bits of the boy She said if it was 15 weeks, it could change as sometimes it is hard to see but at 20 weeks, she said it is pretty sure ie 95%

Well, also I dreamt twice I was having a boy.
