Is there any build up to waters breaking??

I am just curious as to those who have experienced their waters breaking naturally......did it just happen unexpectedly or was there a sensation build up either right before or in the days/hours leading up to this event for you??

I am almost at 38weeks now and with the head butting that is going on down there, particularly at night, I have had a few moments of sudden pounding and even sudden sharp pains and I've panicked thinking that I am about to wet everything! With our first bubby being induced, I have no idea about the experience of things happening on their own so am really interested in hearing what others have experienced.

It's not really like in the movies/soapies where one minute the chick is standing their having a mocktail and then whoosh!! There's a mess everywhere (that you never get to see btw!)......................................is it?!?!?!?!

I didn't have any warning when my water broke.
I just got into bed and felt a gush.
I did have loose number 2's that day but only recognised that in hindsight. It was pretty out of the blue for me, I had no idea it was going to happen.

My waters broke naturally, but I was lying down in bed so there wasnt really a gush for me. Before it happened, I was getting mild contractions and feeling a bit of pressure 'down there'.
re the gushing, I was lying down when my waters broke - i got a contraction and felt a pop down low and felt waters coming out like I was peeing uncontrolably. I got up to go to the bathroom and I dripped all the way, got in the shower and more came out again like I was peeing unontrolably.

I had my waters broken during my first labour but for the other two they broke naturally.
I was in very established labour and the waters breaking was almost at the pushing stage.

My waters broke naturally at 39 weeks with #1. Woke up at 11pm needing to go to the loo, when I made it back to bed and begun to slide down under the covers, pop she went!!! And they went everywhere, no mistaking what they were that is for sure, could of happened in the loo though But no pre-symptoms before that though, had some minor back ache for a couple of nights prior, that was it.
    Good Luck.

Wow - Charlyfrog - I can't believe it's nearly your turn, ALREADY!! Don't know about the waters breaking (mine never did, even the ARM didn't work, baby's head to close to cervix). My friend always said carry around a glass bottle of apple juice when you're out in public so if your waters break you can just drop the bottle and pretend it's all apple juice. LOL

I just wanted to pop in and send you ((hugs)) and blessings as you approach your birthing journey.

With Olivia it was a pop and a cupful.......water, but not loads. No prior "warning" as such.

With Charlie my waters broke as a result of induction......OMG.....there was LOADS, just like a movie! It sloshed everywhere, and I had been on a fit ball and so we were all slippin' and a slidin' everywhere!

With Lexie, I had had niggles for around 3 weeks prior and had very regular contractions when I finally got in the car to go to the hospital, and my waters broke in the car..................you have no idea....there was water everywhere........it was hilarious........

Oh my goodness Lucy!! That is a crack up!! Certainly made me have some bizarre and hilarious images going through my head of what it would've been like if that had been me!!! (maybe I'll remember those hilarious thoughts and take them into the labour with me.........just for my own inner laughing party!! LOL!!!)

    Did the car recover?!?!?!?!?

My waters broke after a lot of prelabour. Had just sat down on the lounge to eat dinner.. had a particularly uncomfortable contraction... squirmed my way through it, couldn't get comfortable, decided I should get up to go to the loo... only JUST made it to the loo and it gushed everywhere. This was at 37 weeks. I can tell you I'm gonna be sitting on a towel everywhere I go I think this time! LOL.

Charlyfrog, i am in the same position as you i am 38 weeks tomorrow and i have been getting some seriously painful kicks and jolts deep down..they have been making my legs jump and tingle!!

My waters broke at 39 weeks with DS i woke up to pee and there was a definate trickle down my legs...went to the loo put on a pad and went back to bed only to be awakened by another major leak lol

I didnt have any warnings, no pains, niggles, aches nothing at all until they induced me 3 days later...i am praying i have a bit more luck this time around..i just want a spontaneous labour not a induced one again.

Good luck hopefully it does mean the little ones are getting ready for their arrival because i wont be far behind you lol

Charlyfrog.......sweets, glad I gave you a giggle! The car: bizarre........DH left the window open to "dry it out" (the seat and the floor of the passenger seat were soaked). He then left the car window open for about 4 days and drove my car (as I was in hospital).

When he finally went to use his car again he was dreading it, as we were convinced it would smell and/or the upholstery would've perished........NOPE! It was as if it had never happened.......

(My beautiful shoes, however, were a total write off.......leather and amniotic fluid are NOT compatible!)

To be honest, the waters breaking thing.....at the risk of sounding sick, I really loved it.......it is absolute confirmation that its all happening.......that is the point with both Charlie and Lexie that I actually FELT like I was in labour. It was exciting..........you'll be the same hon, I'm sure.........

(With Olivia, she was my first, I had NFI.....my little splosh happened at 9am and I didn't even call the hospital till 1pm.....just kept whinging to Kelly on MSN that I had "really bad period pains in my back". Ermmmmm, that's labour Lucy.......LOL!)

Here's to an inner laughing labour party for you: xx

I think its only 30% whose waters break as the first sign of labour.

Left alone, most waters break on their own accord just before second stage... saw it just this weekend actually, it was divine to see it happen on its own like that. It's better when they break later, position wise...
