I started losing my plug at 19 weeks with DS2, went into labour at 26 weeks (I was in denial, didn't think I was in labour... only had back pain and stomach tightenings!) they managed to stop it and it settled down after a week in hospital, all up 8+3 weeks of contractions and he arrived at 34+3. I lost a large amount of my plug 3-4 times during the pregnancy. Your plug can regenerate.
I definitely think it is worth being checked out, and to be on the side of caution. IF you are about to go into labour the BEST thing you CAN do is to get steroid injections on board to help babies lungs, these are vital. Babies who have steroid injections tend to do better in the long run. DS1's steroids were still current (they only last 2 weeks) and he has no ongoing lung problems. DS2 had steroids at 26 weeks, so by 34 weeks they were no longer current, he has ongoing lung problems.
All the best, I truly hope that you are just unwell and nothing more sinister is happening. I also hope you are 100% better soon x
