Question Seriously painful Leg cramps? Any idea why & how to stop them?

I got them a few weeks ago at night, Id roll over & stretch & my calf & ankle would cramp up like mad (it was still warm weather at that stage).

But this week Ive had it pretty much every morning in my right knee at the back, calf & ankle. If anyones ever had 'growing pains' as a kid....thats exactly what it feels like. The only thing that helped was getting around in my ugg boots yesterday all day & just walking through the pain as much as I could, but it was still there.

Anyone experienced the same? How do I get rid of them?

Oh lissy I had these too, I have no idea how to stop them except I used to either massage them out or just trying to straighten it out while it was cramping..
Unfortunately I got them while in labour with one of my ds's too
Does yours leave that sorta stuck stinging sensation afterwards

I had them throughout my pregnancy too. I've heard drinking tonic water or taking vitamin B helps but nothing stopped mine.

Sparklez yeah I get that feeling afterwards, its like the cramp hasn't completely gone away & your kind of afraid to test it to see lol. through labor?? you poor thing! Hope mine go before then.

Did anyone have fluid or circulation issues along with this cramping? And did you have them right up to birth? or they come & go?

    Thanks ladies

No I didn't have any circulation issues. Mine stopped towards the end of the pregnancy.

Blackmores magnesium tablets helped me with this.

Yeah I thought there was something about bananas lol. But they're REALLY expensive up here right now $12-14kg. Oh well might have to splurge & try some for the cramps.

I get these, last pregnancy I ate banana before bed and one in night when got munchies, this time due to expense have not had any bananas and frequency of cramps is the same, so bananas did not seem to work for me. I asked midwife and she said often can be pressure bubs is putting on a nerve or something so sometimes supplements don't help.

It's an old wives tale, but worked for me. Glass of milk and a banana before bed. Milk gives you a hit of calcium and the banana a hit of potassium....

Apparently it's pretty common in the later stages of pregnancy. I only had a few, but once I started doing this never got any more. HTH

I 2nd the milk before bed. I hate banana's so haven't had that, but I have a glass of milk every night for over 2 years and haven't had a cramp until recently when I stopped drinking it due to a bad cough. Cramps all through the night until I started the milk up again.

Ive upped my water intake & having a powerade when I start feeling really thirsty to make sure Im not dehydrated. Also started wearing bedsocks with the cooler weather & it seems to be helping the cramps.

Ugh I remember those! I used to get them all the time at the slightest point of my toes... I woke up screaming in the middle of the night for weeks, poor DH would wake up in a panic thinking I was being murdered! But would then massage my legs until I fell back asleep awwww I started taking Magnesium Tablets and had bananas before bed (when I remembered) and they completely stopped - Bliss! I think the Magnesium tabs helped the most. Worth a try, good luck!!

I had them threatening to come ALL the time while i was pregnant, particularly towards the end. I say 'threatening" cos i could feel it coming on and was able to move my leg in a way to avoid getting it, dont ask me how i could do that though cos i cant remember how i did it, i just would do it.............i think i would move my foot downwards, cos moving it up would bring the cramp on full force............i dunno, but anyway i have noticed the cramps have gone since giving birth.

I hope they ease up soon for you cos they are so painful and leave u feeling battered and bruised for the rest of the day dont they.
