My kids are up at 6am and ask us if they can watch TV. Answer is always yes as we are getting ready or just about to get up ourselves. It goes off when it's time for breakfast and to get ready for school.
My kids can watch tv. They can even play video games! They get up get dresses, make their beds, empty the dishwasher, pack their lunches and have breakfast. All by 8am. They have 30 mins to do as they please. I figure if I get on and check Facebook or anything else why can't they have their own time? If they didn't get these things done then there would be no free time. Which I actually feel guilty about due to the fact sometimes I'm not as strict with myself
We have it on, but if it interferes with getting dressed/brushing teeth then it goes off.
Nowdays all I have to to is take one step towards it as if I am going to shut it of and he is up and running for the bathroom
My 4.5 yr old cannot watch T.V before Kindy as he will cry, kick and scream saying he wants to stay home with mum and watch T.V! It just turns a switch on in his brain I guess.
Though we do leave t.v on most days while we are just hanging out at home and just watch it when we feel like it. Though we are only home on Mon/Tue's if that.
He probably wont watch it before school either at least until he is old enough and doesn't cry when we drop him off. The two boys will go crazy though and run around outside, fight and throw breakfast at each other but for now thats easier to deal with than a super emotional drop off!
Only when they are completely ready or of they are waiting for me to finish feeding dd3 so I can do their hair. Otherwise everything happens at snail pace.
We have about half an hour to get up, dressed, lunch made, breakfast eaten, spelling words checked, out the door. So no time for TV! We do have the radio on, though.
We get up just after the 7 o'clock radio news. We are out the house before twenty to eight. If we were leaving the house at twenty past instead of twenty to, yeah we'd have TV and games and all sorts. Or even more time in bed staying warm!
Sort of...we watch sunrise from 7-8.30. They are ready by 8am each morning, DD1 uses the computer to do reading eggs or mathletics nd DD2 uses the iPad to do ABC stuff.
We used to have the Today show on, but DD was getting distracted by that. This year we just have had the radio on in the mornings (ABC) and I still seem to have 'Come On' on repeat as she does get fairly easily distracted (toys, cat etc).
On weekends she has just started watching kids programs on the computer in the mornings before coming in to us. Must say I enjoy the extra time.
Next year once she is at school we will have more time in the mornings. If she is ready, the TV might be allowe to come on, but based on experience, it seems to take as long as the time that is available to get ready (same for me).
We go through phases with it. Some mornings I put it on to simply keep DD2 occupied and out of everyone's way because she can be terribly annoying especially to DS and the last thing I need is for him to be worked up before school.
This morning DD1 asked to watch Bindi The Jungle Girl, its a 25 minute show, she had already had breakfast and got herself ready for school in front of the tv. It was fine.
If I notice that they are getting too distracted then I will turn it off but generally we manage ok. I have been known to turn it on at 8am when everyone is ready to go (ie dressed, bags packed etc) so I can go and get ready myself without any distractions. At least then DD2 will sit down and not run around the house like a mad woman causing trouble.
