I haven't read anything other than parenting books and self-help/anxiety books for a long time and picked up The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver the other day. Have read it before but loved it - anyone else read it??? It's about a Baptist family that go to the Congo in the 50's to preach to the natives! Intriguing story and the way it is written is great.

I also recently read One Thousand Gifts - it is a Christian book that is all about changing you life by being thankful. Really great read but took me a while to get into it. It made me start a new blog though so must have had an impact!

I am a re-reader too - I will quite happily re-read books 4,5 6 + times if I love it! I have read the HP series through about 5 times from start to finish!

I love the Poisonwood Bible, it's one of my all time favourites!!

If you are looking for fact based, I can highly recommend Jesus Freaks. It's an amazing read about the Children of God/The Family International. This is about Ricky "Davidito" Rodgriuez who was to be the next chosen one and Son of David "Moses" Berg the leader of this Religious Cult. In January 2005 a woman was found stabbed three times with her throat slit by a young man....it's the lead up to this.

Ahh Poisonwood Bible, always wanted to read that and forgot!

I'm reading Quentins by Maeve Binchy. Its about a high end restaurant in Dublin and the stories of the patrons there. And about a woman who falls in love with a married man and it ends badly, where she and her family lose everything. She gets a job helping a friend who runs a production company and they decide to do a documentary on the restaurant. It's an easy, light read, one I've read before and enjoying again.

I've just finished a good old John Grisham, "The Bretheren". It was pretty enjoyable, but I wasn't happy about the ending ...

oh well ...

I have just finished One Day and was very surprised by the ending..haven't seen the movie yet.

I am reading The Time of my Life by Cecilia Ahern (Bertie Ahern's daughter ). I have read quite a few of her books.
This one is about a girl who is struggling with a break up and enventually is summoned by her 'Life' for a an audit I suppose you would call it on her behaviour. 'Life' is with her to help get her back on track.
She writes some pretty funky books and they are usually a little out there. I love her!

Cassius: Is that a movie as well? I am pretty certain All Quiet on the Western Front was a movie years ago, it was my Dad's all time favourite.

ive started reading again,
currently reading The b!tch in the house. from memory it isb 26 women telling there stories on life, sex, love and relationships.
so far its been prety good. a nice change from my usual horror/true crime.

I am just about to finish Friendship Bread. I had to stop reading on the train the other day as I was trying my hardest not to cry
It's such a beautiful book about loss, love and reconciliation in a little town in the US. The title comes from a bread called Amish Friendship Bread, you are given a zip lock bag of dough and divide and make something with your bit and give the other portions to a friend.

I'm about halfway through "Catcher in the Rye"... classic teen angst. I like it, but... I don't know. I just can't get into it at the moment, I've put it down for now. Might pick it up again when I'm feeling depressed.

I am a few chapters into "A Tiny Bit Marvelous" By Dawn French and I am loving it! Very funny. Journal entry-ish, each chapter swaps between Mum, her (so far) horrid teen daughter, and 16 y/o son who thinks he's Oscar Wilde (his bit is just fantastic, so funny).

Next two books on my "to read" list are: Frankenstein (Mary Shelley) and The Children's Book (A.S Byatt). Both quite wordy books, just not feeling the concentration at the moment... I get two sentences in and my brain goes kablammo.

Well I am reading something very light I have finished The Carrie Diaries and now onto The Carries Diaries Summer in New York.
I have never watched Sex and the City. This is about Carrie at High School and the Summer in New York is the follow up after High School and about how she met Miranda and Co. It's light reading..I am enjoying it.

I've just finished Maeve Binchy's Nights of Rain and Stars. Been sitting on my bookshelf unopened for too long. I really enjoyed it. It's about four travelers who are thrown together on one of the Greek Islands due to a boat fire unfolding. Each is running away from home for one reason or another. Really easy read.

Now I'm on to the Smoke Jumper by Nicholas Evans. Loved it the first time I read it, but I can't really remember much about it this time around.

I'm so tired, easy reads are great and help my mind settle at night.

Maeve Binchy is my FAVOURITE author. I have read all her books at least twice, some of them more. Love love love! I have moved onto reading Marian Keyes stuff now because it is similar and I needed to move past Maeve Binchy and expand my horizons. I am reading 'The Brightest Star in the Sky' now.

I really like Liane Moriarty too. If you can get your hands on a copy of "What Alice Forgot" I would highly recommend it. Awesome book and best of all, Liane Moriarty is Australian She hasn't written many books though - I have only found three "Three Wishes" which I also really enjoyed and "The Last Anniversary" which was okay but nothing spectacular.

- Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn.

Heather we did the Slap. The original cover is dark green/black with some sort of face or hand just visible... With "The Slap" and author in big white letters. ITMS!

We were a bit divided by it. It certainly gave us things to talk about! It's full of controversial topics - not just the slap, but extended bf, alcoholism and domestic violence, underage drinking/drug use/sex, inappropriate relationships between adults/minors, adjusting to new cultures, displacement, homosexuality, just to name a few!!!!!

I liked parts of it but other parts I found quite confronting and excessively crude - like he was writing a sex scene and it was OTT graphic. Which I don't think is required... Maybe that's just me, maybe I'm a prude

Actually no others thought that too.
