Oooh I'm definately a food criminal... I love tomato sauce, fake whipped cream (especially fake whipped choc mousse) and plastic cheese on my jaffles. But I do agree on the low fat. Anything low fat or with that low joule sugar is just gross.
The biggest food criminal I know is my MIL... the original meat and three veg woman, overcooked vegies with garlic bread from a packet in the freezer and defrosted, undercooked pickled pork *shudder*

I've changed my main shopping venue from Coles to an Independent grocer (Leo's Fine Foods) and am discovering lots of locally produced food that are more 'real' than the brands you find in Coles. Yogurt for example... there is a nice little range of locally made yogurts that taste sooooo good and don't rely on "thickener' to make it taste creamy. coles used to stock Jalna and King Island which are good... but more and more the "fake' yogurt brands like Ski and Nestle were taking over their shelves. *thumbs down* Coles!

Thanks for bumping this thread Trill

My dad once put a packet of dried friut (like for a boiled fruit cake) into...CHOW MEIN! Glace cherries and all...it was very disgusting...I'm scarred for life! I cannot eat cooked savory fruit, yuck!

Instant coffee - this is not coffee and should not be allowed to even be called coffee as it is disrespecting proper coffee!

Cheese in a can - how did this ever come into existence?

Deb - why would you make fake mashed potato? It's not like making mashed potato is difficult!!!

Tasteless supermarket tomoatoes - why bother?

Any mass produced junk food combo meal (eg. McDonalds, Hungry Jacks, KFC) - sure I'll have my whole days worth of calories and 3 days worth of fat in one unsatisfying meal.... they should be outlawed!

My DP takes the smothering everything with sauce a step further...everything is smothered in the hottest chilli sauce he can find and i know there is no way he can taste anything then and also he has stooped to a new low..."dog" rolls of "ham" apparently they are fantastic...i think not!

Tomato sauce. On anything. Unless it's home made, in which case it is wonderful. The biggest crime was when Heinz brought out GREEN tomato sauce. Not sauce made from green (unripe) tomatoes, but normal tomato sauce dyed green. Wrong, wrong, and more wrong.

    Fake plastic cheese.

Medium steak when rare is ordered. I usually have to order steak blue so that I get it rare.

    Pre-made salad dressings.

Almost everything made by Kraft and Nestle.

    Gravox.

Bad chocolate. The world should not be subjected to it.

Packet mixes when the real thing is easier and quicker and tastes 10 times better.

I agree on the cooked lettuce. Wrong, wrong and more wrong. Most wrong was when I bought a cheese and salad sandwich and was asked if I wanted it toasted. WTF is that about.

Just have one thing to say on bacon and maple syrup (and pancakes) for those who doubt its wonderfulness. It's the BEST hangover food ever. EVER. And if served with fried banana sprinkled with a bit of cinnamon and brown sugar to caramelise.... oh baby. Mmmmmm. Has to be good bacon, and real maple syrup. Our local butcher cures his own bacon and it is sublime.

Loving this thread! Thanks Trillian for bumping it!

I agree with the overcooked vegies, plastic cheese and salt/pepper-ing things before tasting.

But my few *felony* crimes are:

Artificial sweeteners (don't even taste sweet!!)
    Low fat milk *blurk*
Pre-packaged meals that just taste like the plastic they've been stored in - and nothing else

    and my number 1 -

Runny egg whites - don't mind the yolk runny, but puh-lease cook the white!

I agree with the others about the 'low fat' foods being unsatisfying so we eat more. Same goes for quality food. If you feel like a proper chocolate eclair with chantilly cream - eat one. Don't have a fake cream donut from woolies.... it just won't satisfy you and you will have "wasted" the effort. Gosh dang it - just eat the calories and enjoy every single one of them!!! It's the way I lost 18 kgs...

Vegimite on wheat a bix YUCKO.
I had forgotten about that, used to eat weetbix like that as a kid

Prepackaged potato salad - completely rude in a bring a plate scenario, especially if the bringer then whinges that others have brought potato salad (which happens to be home made) as they were the ones to meant to bring it

Pizza's from Pizza hut, or any large Pizza chain..
They all taste gross, I tried all the different kinds of bases and they all either taste like big bits of dough with gross toppings or overcooked thin base and then you can taste the gross toppings even more! lol
I completely went off Pizza until I found a lovely little Italian restuarant that makes the most delicious pizza's I've ever had. I don't even like my own home made pizzas, but I've never made the bases before, just used the supermarket bases which are gross.

I've said gross too much sorry heh

I agree with you Ben... except about Lindt Lindt generally has a higher cocoa content meaning you don't tend to over eat the stuff (you get the "hit" after eating less). Quality over quantity any day when it comes to chocolate.
