Dutch pancake makers - would these cook round doughnuts?

    Hey guys,

Our festival of channukah starts tomorrow night and one of the foods we eat on it is jam filled doughnuts. A few years ago I bought a deep fryer to make them (unhealthy I know, but it's only once a year!) as I didn't like the oil splattering from the frying pan, but now there are heaps more machines out to make these kinds of things. I saw a Dutch pancake maker machine, and they appear to be ball shaped (I've never eaten one - what are they??) so I was wondering from the collective wisdom of the people on here if anyone knows if I used a recipe for doughnut dough would it work? Just thought they might be healthier (and I find they are very hard to get cooked in the middle and not burnt ion the outside even in the deep fryer).

You inject the jam with a plastic syringe after you have cooked them btw...

    Any idea's?

    Thanks muchly

The poffertje machines would not work as they wouldn't be deep enough for a doughnut. They are like minature pikelets. So when you go to markets and so on, you get a plate of them with butter, icing sugar and select maple syrup, lemon or honey to go on top if you like.
I did see in the recent Target magazine a Dora Cup Cake machine, like the pie maker's only for cup cakes, it definitely looked deep enough for what you need. You could check that out.

I've seen doughnut makers but these are normally the hole ones.

I've also seen cupcake makers - do you think it would work?

I think it's worth a go, if they don't work, you then gave a cup cake maker

I agree that if it for Poffertjes then it wouldn't work. But maybe it is for olliebollen? Which are dutch round doughtnuts eaten at xmas and then it would be perfect. Not sure if they make special cookers for them though as my dad uses a deep fryer.
