    Flaxseeds in Cooking!

I want to modify a really nice cookie recipe with flaxseeds to make it more beneficial for DD.

If we cook flaxseeds does it lose its nutritional value? ie omega3 and 6 content?

I bought the organic golden flaxmeal one.

    THANKS!

I'm by no means an expert on this, but I don;t think it would lose any nutritional value at all. A bit like toasting sesame seeds.

A good way to use flax seeds is to soak them then add them to whatever you are cooking. I personally use them in yoghurt - they soak up fluid from it and seem to lose that bitter flavour.

They tend to go rancid once they have been ground and if I recall correctly lose the Omega's that you want. So best to grind on as needs basis. Another option is getting flaxseed oil and using that with some cooking.

Oh No!!! I just bought a whole pack of the flaxseed meal (is that the same as grinded flaxseed)?

Yep flaxseed meal is just ground up seed.

If you put the seed in things then cook it, it won't loose any nutrition.

However, if you use the oil and heat it, yes, the oil will be pretty much useless.
