My little one is having some poo issues and I'm wanting to sneak some foods into her diet that will help get her bowels moving. Problem is she won't eat raw pears, apricots, dates. I have to fight to get her to have watermelon! So, does anyone have any ideas (and recipes!) for some foods that might get her bowels moving? So far I have:
Pear juice
Pear muffins
Apricot muffins
Apricot Sultana Rock Cakes
I accidentally found Kiwi fruit was a good mover for my DDs
Other wise I used to stew apples or pears with some prunes and whizz it up when DD was really young. As she got older I would keep it in its stewed form and serve it as a treat, perhaps with some cream.
ETA: I just thought as a recipe, you could put the stewed fruit and prunes into triangles of puff pastry and bake them then eat hot for desert or cold the next day for a treat.
Pear are great, even better is pear juice. Proper cloudy pear juice, not he commercial 'clear' stuff. You can still buy real cloudy pear juice from the supermarkets though.
Or sometimes a food allergy can cause constipation as well... I would increase fruit as you've been trying and fibre... you can make smoothies with fruit and flaxseeds etc to do it xoxoxo good luck!
Liv- I had that thought too and have increased her intake when she's home. She says she needs to poo but has to really strain to have success. Poor poppet has a hemmoriod I'm not so worried about that because I'm 99% sure that is from the 30 min she sits on the loo and all the straining. I just need to get her bowels working properly.
If we don't have any luck I'll have to look into allergies.
I had completely forgotten about kiwi fruit! Will source some tomorrow
Warm water. Too much fibre and not enough water can do more damage than good. So make sure that if she's having water it's not *cold* but almost body temperature.
