Bump! Great ideas here!!!
we often use mince in stirfries!!
pastizio is yummy - like lasagne but with pasta (like macaroni or penne instead of flat sheet but can't find a good recipe ATM cause i have a screaming baby attached to me... later!
LOL Fletch - all I ever have is tacos and spaghetti... So chow mein, stir frys, mild curry mince... it boggles the brain lmao
ETA Thai Beef Salad sounds great Ally - post the recipe!! Its def a good thread to have around Relle - mince is always the last meat left in the freezer LOL.
Relle.........I may end up resorting to that. I am such a sad case, I actually really ENJOY food shopping........but if I have to take kdis with me I don't get to enjoy it as much......so I am liking your thinking.......
When daylight savings kicks in, I may start trotting off to Coles in the evening.........
LMAO - Lucy isn't it really sad when you get excited about doing the grocery shopping on your own!![]()
PMSL, yep.....DH thinks I am mad......he does actually offer to do it, but it is MY pleasure........
Lucy my DH offers too - but he just doesn't do it right iykwim! LOL And what if I feel like a pack of Tim Tams or something! And no matter how hard I try to write a list I always miss things and only remember when I see them! I don't think I have ever written a full list in my life!
Lea - just wait till you have more than one - then they don't fit in the trolley as easily! LOL
Even sadder... I get excited about doing grocery shopping fullstop!! Baby or no baby LMAO!
Lea, considering where you work, OMG........THAT IS TRAGIC LOVE!! LOL, JK! xxEven sadder... I get excited about doing grocery shopping fullstop!! Baby or no baby LMAO!
As promised, a thai dish recipe called Larb!
You can use any type of mince, but traditionally Pork and chicken is used. Use only small amounts of chilli, if you dont like hot food
Serving size: Serves 4
Cooking time: Less than 30 minutes
Serves 4
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon peanut oil
1 stick lemongrass, white part only, finely chopped
1 long red chilli, halved and thinly sliced
250g pork mince
250g chicken mince
1 cup chicken stock
1 red onion, sliced
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon fish sauce
1/3 cup coriander leaves
¼ cup mint leaves, torn
1tsp grated ginger
1 clove garlic
1 lebanese cucumber sliced
1 baby cos lettuce or lettuce mix
1 Vine Tomato sliced
1 Cup Fresh Bean Shoots
Method:
Heat oil in a wok. Add lemongrass and chilli and stir-fry for 1 minute. Add mince and fry until browned. Add stock and simmer for about 10 minutes or until liquid has evaporated. Stir through onion, lime juice, fish sauce and herbs.
Cool the mince mixture in the fridge if preffered, then arrange lettuce mix, cucumber, tomato and bean sprouts on a platter, and spoon over the mince mixture.

What about san choi bow? The mince in lettuce cups.
I have no Idea how to make it, but it's always great at a restaurant. Or chilli con carne. I never make mine real hot DH is a wus.
Ally that sounds great, and Chloe I've got yours as well.
Kim, that is SO spooky........I just this minute said to DH......"I might get some pork mince later, then we can have rissoles next week, and maybe some san chow bow".....great minds think alike!!
I will dig out my recipe for san chow bow and post it later............
I was trying to think of the name of that the other day *insert twilight zone music and sinister wiggling eyebrows here* SAN CHOY BOW!!! Thank you Kim.
Lucy my mince pizzas are same as Christys... we go the Moroccan spices route, with tomato-based sauce and a combination of sweet and savoury (sometimes apple as the sweet thing, sometimes prunes). OK now you're all going to think I'm a wierdo.
Righteo then! How about some plain old lasagne?
PMSL......THIS IS FREAKY............guess what I have just made up with the other 500g mince?? LASAGNE!!!!!!
You girls have been emailing each other LOL![]()
LOL!
I have just back from shopping.......I usually buy meat from a v.good local butcher, but we are currently on a BIG economy drive,s o I did a supermarket run to get cheaper/discounted meat...........scored every type of mince available (chicken, pork, turkey and beef) as well as lamb loin/backstrap.........the freezer if full again......and if we keep adding to this thread I will have a shed-load of ideas for "cheap" but tasty meals........
THANKS GUYS!
don't forget meatball strog! meatball korma, or other curry!
