PMSL.. thanks for trying I couldn't find much either.

I've got it in, just on 200 at the moment, and will turn it like, every half hour or something, see how I go.. its getting brown already though, wonder if I smothered it with enough oil.. LOL

I don't know if I'm brave enough to do the roast vegies, it might just be mashed tatas and stuff tonight.. lol

Ok, here is how I do roast ... no expert BUT DH likes it

Take your meat, and lightly dust the top with flour (not much, just lightly) Take a knife and make little slits in the meat and push in some peeled, cut garlic. Salt and Pepper to taste. Then place in ovenbag (or you can cover the whole piece with foil - shiny side inwards) with two tablespoons of water. Place in oven dish. Place in 180 degree oven for up to two hours. That would do it.

Hope it comes out gorgeous ... after reading this, I'm feeling like roast too

Crashed and burned my friends. Unless you count being extremely burnt and rock hard being a success?

i have never cooked a roast either. The meat i cook with is mince, sausages, etc.doesn't need roasting.

People that roast meat, seem to have some sort of formula to do with the weight of the meat.

if the meat weighs this much - then cook for so long etc.

i have no idea what an "easy cooker" is either.

Just the THOUGHT of a roast dinner, wow! i'm feeling hungry now!

the closest i get, is to buy a roast chook at the supermarket, when they get marked down LOL.

i have no formula - i just throw it in the oven and keep an eye on it so that it doesn't burn, and poke it with a big fork to make sure no blood coming out! all done by guess work

Mel - my mum has one of those easy cooker things i think (is that the glass thing with the element at the top and a noisy fan?) - if it's the same thing, it cooks things really quickly in comparison to a normal oven. fantastic for things like kievs and stuff, but i can't say i'd be in a hurry to cook a roast in there - i would think the element might be too close or something

how's about you and I cook a roast together via MSN one day - let me know when you're feeling like a roast, we'll go buy similar sized ones, and cook together! i'm happy to help... you WILL cook a successful roast one day - even if it kills me helping you do it lol

Yeah BG, its the glass thing with the fan and heating bit at the top (I'm just so edumacated really)

Dunno how I burnt it - didn't help that Miss M decided last night was the night she was going to take 40 minutes to drink 180mls of milk so we were running a bit behind because I expected her to be asleep before then. Then I ended up eating dinner by myself while DH tried to put her to sleep.

My mum told me that I didn't have it up high enough when I talked to her, but I think next time (if there is a next time - ha!) I'll just do the 180 and just check it every half hour or something - or every 15 towards the end. Might not give roast potatoes a go for a while though - they were horribly burnt and all puckered up like dogs balls... lol

cheats way to roast spud - electric frying pan!

check if your oven works properly hun - i know mum hasn't done a roast in the countertop thing - she always goes back to her oven for a roast...

i'm happy to help you out with cooking it - i tend but lamb (cos it tastes better) on the bone - probably about 2-2.5kg, put it on 160-180 (not sure exactly - the knob is broken lol) probably closer to 180, put it in between 2 and 3 in the arvo, water in the pan, and just cook it - check every hour or so. will ask mum if she has the destructions for the easy oven and can tell me what happens with roasts. i knon when she's cooking kiev's and stuff she turns it off for a while at the end cos it stays hot...

Yeah, I find the element too close. You can try putting the foil over the top but you have to tuck it in or else it gets sucked up!
That's why I turn it over - but it generally does cook faster 180 would be the best.

I don't know how I'm going to go when I get my real oven, I've adjusted everything in my head for the turbo thing...

you'll adjust pretty damn quick lulu

or you'll keep doing all your everyday stuff in the turbo thing - and you'll be competing with Cai for cupcake queen status!
