Fiona - could you/would you post the recipe for your corn fritters? Pretty please? I have been wanting to make some for AGES and don't have a good tried and true recipe. Understand if it's a family secret, but you can kill me after I make them, OK?
DP's working tomorrow, so no breaky for us.He'll have the usual cup of coffee and a cigarette (naughty DP) and I'll have a big glass of activite. Exciting stuff. But I'll do something good for dinner to make up for it.
Cai, it's not a true croque monsieur (shame, I luuurve them!), rather really thick slabs of bread with ham and gruyere stuffed in a pocket, dipped in your egg and milk mixture and cooked a la french toastThen popped in the oven quickly so the cheese is really melty

Thats the original Croque MonsieurThe more elaborate one with bachemal sauce isn't actually as original as people think
ETA: OK I got confuzzled, whilst I have had Croque Monsieur's made this way (and the bachemal way) in the US these are called Monte Cristo's if made with Swiss Cheese, Turkey, Chicken & Ham. Thank you - I love learning new foodie things![]()
