All our bank accounts are with ANZ and I have a personal loan (which was used to purchase a car) with them too. Have always found them to be great, fees are reasonable and customer service is good overall. They have just brought out a new product- it's an online savings account (can't remember exactly what it is called) but it has no fees and the interest you earn on savings is pretty darn good- we used to have normal savings accounts (Progress Saver) with them but have just transferred all money into the Online Saver as the interest is so much better- we have roughly $400 in there at the moment, and last month earnt about $5 interest on it from memory, heaps better than the measly few cents we got with just a normal savings account!
The interest charged on my personal loan is quite reasonable too, think it's one of the lowest rates out there at the moment.
SS_Storm - I currently have everything with ANZ but they cannot match the offer Savings and Loan have on the table - I asked and they have no interest - even though I have a considerable amount in savings, CC and about 5 accounts....
I looked into all the fees, had lengthy phone conversations etc and the amount I use my card/bpay and how little I use cash. Not a chance.
If you are a person that carries cash - I suspect CU 'can' be great. But I pay everything via bpay or bank deposit and I'm a swiper - so when I wasn't paying bank fees at all already, there was no point! Even now when I'm back to earning less and paying $10/month it's still loads better for me.
Good luck hopefully you find something that suits you!
I pay no fees at my CU unless i use atm/foreign atm too often. i have Visa debit to swipe (unlimited per month) and bpay etc unlimited. I am not a cash person either and am much better off than I was with Westpac. I think all CU are different - shop around - mine is AWESOME
Everywhere I spoke with gave you 10 bpay / bank deposit per months and 10 swipes. Then after that each transaction was $1 !!! I would use my monthly quota on a pay day lmao!
I'm with NSW Teachers CU - you have to be a Teacher (or family member) to join. My VISA debit avoids any atm/external trans fees - always free when I push the credit button.
OOPs kept reading and... this is why I don't pay fees...
From TCU website (I have a homeloan WAAAYYYY over $100 000 so no fee for me)

sorry feel a bit dumb now...I didn't realise Savings & Loan are an actual business/bank...I thought you meant savings accounts & loans etc
I'll butt out now...as obviously I have no idea! Lol
We are with a credit union as well (TEachers credit union). They're pretty good, way better than one of the big banks I used to use ('which bank?' )
We dont pay fees as we have our mortgage with them and the Visa debit card is really good because you can used it like a credit card but its your own money.
You do have to be a teacher tojoin this particular credit union, but there are heaps of other CU's that anyone can join, and from what I've seen most of the credit union do a Via or Mastercard Debit card and usually dont charge huge fees.
Definately have a look at some of the Credit unions before looking at the banks.
thought i would po back in..
