Help me remember to take my medication!

I have Hashimoto's Disease and as a result I have to take medication every day, but the problem is that I keep forgetting. If I forget twice in a week I am written off for five days to a week with complete exhaustion, one I can manage without.

So how do you remember to take your meds? Bearing in mind that I have to have them at least 2 hours after food & 1/2 an hour before food.

Set an alarm on your mobile phone? that's what I do if I need to remember something or keept them near your glasses so you see them and remember to take them when you put your glasses on.

It sounds really bad, but Aricyn actually reminds me to take my vitamin. He takes a vitamin every morning, and always asks me - "mummy taking her vitamin?"

Maybe get vitamins for your DS and he can remind you.. lol

Definitely set an alarm on your phone, have the first one go off and then another 10 minutes after that

I used to put an alarm on my phone for my TTC meds, and then my pregnancy vitamins. It was the ony way I could remember!

I have to take medication daily and find the best time is at night after I brush my teeth! I always wait a couple of hours after dinner before brushing my teeth just in case I want to have a treat like ice-cream or something. And I never make it straight to bed after brushing my teeth as I am getting clothes or bags or something like that ready for the next day.

Think of something in your routine that you are doing at the times you should be taking them. Then either put them there (if practical) or put a note to yourself there. Somewhere like sitting them beside your toothbrush. You are unlikely to use that within 2 hours of eating

I have an alarm set on my mobile to remind me to take the pill. would an alarm work, or maybe leave a note to yourself somewhere you will see it often, like on the fridge or bathroom mirror or something?

When I was TTC I had a rough time taking my temp each morning but I found that when I started 'reporting' on it each day in the TTC threads in BB it came more of a thing that I remembered to do... it might sound silly but what about if you 'reported' to a BB thread about your medication taking each day???

As I said it might sound silly but is just the sort of thing that would work for me

I am another one for the mobile phone alarm, and if you cant take it when the alarm goes off, make sure you set another alarm for when you can take it, so you remember... Don't assume you will just remember...

I hated taking mine Sarah, I hear ya.
I agree on the routine thing though. Make it part of the same thing you do everyday. I took mine as soon as I got up, then made beds, dressed the kids, got Darcy's brekkie, made mine and then half an hour was up and I could eat.

The alarm on the phone is a great idea and most phones have the option to have the same reminder go off everyday. The way i remember my medication is i have it on top of my fridge and so when i am organising dinner i see it up there and i know to have it after dinner.

    Good luck! xxx

I only take mine in the morning, and when i'm on something extra like a/b i'm pretty poor at remembering, so its hard with the before/after food.

What i do is have a big dosette box, so i put my weekly pills into that (i had to get the giant size one as i take so many different tablets), and then that goes on top of the coffee, and so every morning after i say my morning prayers i always go and have a coffee, and i take my tablets whilst waiting for the kettle to boil.

In terms of those tablets i forget very rarely, and once i got into a pattern of taking it i was fine.. when i was pregnant i would always forget, but now i think i'ld be much better.

If i were you i would put an alarm on my phone, and after a few months it will become so routine for you.

DD1 is on twice daily meds and she always reminds me that my meds are due and which ones are due when.... it helps that she is such a creature of habit. I would go the phone method, my good friend does it that way.

I have two medication times - the first lot with breakfast, and the second lot at bed time. I find that they are two things that happen in the same way every day and around the same time every day. This has gone on for years, but it's such a normal part of my routine now that I just never, ever forget. I keep my morning tablets where I have breakfast, and my night tablets are with my toothbrush. Fortunately I don't currently have any that are taken morning or night.

The alarm on the phone is a good idea if you always have it with you, but it doesn't take long before it becomes habit if you build into a part of your day that doesn't change much at all.

I love the glasses idea Trillian, I may have to use that one!

See the problem is that I am up at different times on different days so an alarm isn't going to work so well. On Saturday I am up at 5am to go to work, so if the alarm is set for 7.30 when I am normally up it's too late IYKWIM.

Also sorry guys, should have mentioned, I have to take them sometime in the morning.

On my phone I can set different alarm times for different days - when I was working full time I had a monday to friday alarm that went off at 5.55am and then on the weekends I had one that went off at 7.30am (I should have slept in but I had to get up to get washing etc done... and was trying to convince myself an alarm would get me in the habit for a child )

    Does your phone do that?
